The Union, a HL2RP Fan-fiction story!
« on: April 10, 2013, 12:47:20 AM »
The following story is not a reflection of the current CG canon, although it uses the canon as a basis for the story. While some of the characters/events mentioned in the story are from CG’s Canon, any actions/events they partake in during this story are in a separate universe, essentially. This is purely a story that I’m writing for my own enjoyment, and hopefully for other’s enjoyment to read. So, without further delay…

THE UNION

Chapter One: A New Beginning
Alisa’s eyes snapped open as she quickly jerked her upper body upwards as a faint beeping sound woke her from slumber.  Alisa rubbed her eyes slightly, taking a seat along the edge of the bed as she pushes the sheets aside. As she lifted her head, she began to pan around the room, getting a feel for it. She was in a standard civilian bed, in a fairly standard room. A small kitchen sat in the corner near her, while a worn brown door on the other side of the room opened up into a small, confined bathroom. A single table sat in front of a beaten up green couch, a newspaper and a small device sitting in the center. Alisa narrowed her eyes slightly, pushing the sheets off her legs as she got up to her feet. A faint amount of light leaked through the window behind the bed, her shadow creeping across the floor as she slid across the boards towards a dresser along the end of the bed.

Once she’d arrived at the wooden dresser, she slid open the doors with stiff movements, pulling out a neatly folded blue jumpsuit, along with a pair of clean, white socks. She unbuttoned her shirt in a clean, uniform manner, sliding it off her torso only to fold it quickly, setting it atop the dresser. She grabbed ahold of the pants from the uniform, flipping them out in the open space of the room before slipping her legs into the pair, pulling it up and securing it with the zipper. Alisa snatched a white t-shirt from the center of the set, sliding it over her head. It rested tightly to her figure as she unfolded the navy blue over shirt, putting both her left and right arms through their respective holes. She buttoned it up in a similar uniform fashion to before, adjusting her collar as she snatched the pair of socks. After unfolding them, she lifted her individual legs up, the left before the right, sliding the cotton mitten over her toes and feet. She slid the dresser drawers shut, snatching the clothing she’d just taken off and throwing it into a small basket. As she walked over to the kitchen area, she pulled out a hairband from her shirt pocket, putting her dirty blonde hair into a neat ponytail.

At the kitchen, she opened the door to the small, white refrigerator, scanning the contents. Inside were a few bottles of lemonade, a few cans of Breen’s water, a box of UU-Chinese food, and a cut up orange on a small plate. Alisa blinked her eyes a few times before snatching the lemonade off the top shelf, retracting it from the cold air, shutting the door. She set it on the counter, reaching up to open one of the cabinets along the counter. Inside the cabinet were a small collection of grey packets, around a dozen or so. She snatched one from the bin they were nested in, shutting the cabinet only to open the one adjacent to it. She pulled a glass from the cabinet, setting it on the counter as she tore open the grey packet. As it was poured into the glass, it accumulated to be a strange red-orange powder substance. She gripped the glass, walking over to the sink. Turning it on, she tapped her foot lightly along the wooden floorboard as she waited till the glass filled, turning off the water. Shaking it a few times in her hand, Alisa snatched the lemonade in her free hand, walking towards the table.

Alisa took a few sips from the now red liquid in the glass, her face showing a slight look of disgust as she swallowed it. She shook her head, letting out a slight groan as she unscrewed the cap to the lemonade, chugging a fair amount of it down. The small device had the appearance of a glorified request device, with a slightly larger appearance, three small LED’s along the left side, and a small screen big enough for a fingertip if anything. She took another large drink from the red liquid, shaking out her head as she reached for the device, pressing her thumb along the small screen of the device, holding it in place for about five seconds before a beep emitted, one of the LED’s giving three quick red flashes. Alisa took a single step back, setting the device down on the table. The screen along the device flickered to a bright white light, the middle LED flicking on to a constant, green light. Soon, a strange, almost metallic voice came over the device.

“Ah, you’re awake, good. I hope you rehabilitation off-world did you some good. That aside, this is merely a check in. I believe you’re well acquainted with your mission, unit” the voice said, an empty static emitting as Alisa gave a slight subconscious nod to herself.

“Yes, sir, I am familiar with my assignment. Operative 091 is now on active duty” she responded in a formal, monotone fashion.

“Excellent. Proceed with the operation, and dispose of this device. 62100 out” the voice said, the static going to silence as the green light turned off, the screen losing any light it previously had. Alisa snatched the device off the table, pressing her ring finger along the device as she walked to the bathroom, dropping the device in the toilet. It sat there for a while, before a small red flame shot up from the device, a loud sizzle emitting from the bathroom as a slight string of smoke crept into the air. She then pressed her hand along her ear, her eyes blinking at a rapid rate as a small string of tears rolled down her face. She looked up, removing her hand from her ear.

“This is Operative 091, now online.”
