That's mabey because the same thing is the nice, apt thing? My usualy introduction is something like:

I say that because:
1) I'm an admin and want to make sure new members have easy access to the rules threads, and have NO excuse to not read them.
2) So they know that an official, high ranking admin is welcoming them, thus letting them know we are an approachable admin team.
3) To personally welcome them to the community.

If you will also notice, I try and vary the things I say and/or the way I say them.
I have no problem with people welcoming a member to the community, even if they've said something along the same lines a thousand times. As long as it's not just C+P'd (Or if it is, it should have a personal note to it) or a 1 word welcome like "Hi" or "Welcome", then it should be allowed. I think it should be a person genuinely welcoming them, not just like a robot response.
