Title: Games are SLOW.
Post by: TheKrusader on October 22, 2011, 01:52:34 PM
Before you post something like 'get a new comp, lol'. I do not have the money for it.

System Specs:
Nvidia Geforce 8600 GTS
Intel Premium 4 CPU 3.06GHz
1.0GB of RAM
Regular Microsoft Windows XP

Is there anything I could do to make my games run faster? When I connect to the GmoD server, it takes 5 minutes to start GMOD, then another 5 to connect. And In my opinion, that's really slow. It used to be faster, but I don't know anymore.

Rather than buying a new computer, buy a larger RAM whatever. 1GB doesn't seem like much.
If you can't afford that, delete some unwanted things on your computer, just generally reduce background programs etc.

How much does RAM usually cost?

I'm on 2 GB RAM, it's horrible, but any upgrade would make your computer faster.

2GB is the max my comp can get to. It can only take DDR..

If it isn't a laptop, try overclocking.

If it isn't a laptop, try overclocking.

Isn't that risky?

It sure is ;) Your computer can break down all of a sudden

I would recommend getting an entirely new system. An adequate desktop does not cost more then 400 Bucks

For example:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+Pavilion+Desktop+/+AMD+Athlon%26%23153%3B+II+Quad-Core+Processor+/+6GB+Memory+/+1TB+Hard+Drive/2712075.p?id=1218346635151&skuId=2712075&st=HP%20desktop&cp=2&lp=5

It's not something High-End but It's a gate to possibilities. You really can't do much with Your current computer, An extra gig of RAM won't do a gigantic amount, Though it may help.

I would recommend saving and getting something that is better. Or Look at the Best buy Pay-Per-Month deals. I bought a laptop I use to travel with and I only pay 20$ Per/Mo for it.

And Over-Clocking is not going to make an amazing change. It is a risky thing to do with a comp that old. I'd recommend disregarding those who say Over-clock.

@Krusader, promise me you won't buy a HP - Pavilion, you could get something better for the same price.

I don't have the money for a new computer. I'm just gonna get some more memory. When I get a job I'll save for a new comp.
