Scooter
« on: March 01, 2013, 11:53:17 AM »
I plan on buying a scooter but I don't really know which one :/ Here is what I'm thinking of:

DERBI

OR

DAX

(Really popular in Belgium)

I'm probably going to buy a derbi but I wanted to hear some opinions.

PS: I don't live in America so I still have to wait another year before I can drive a car (You need to be 18)

The top one is a motorbike. If you're new to riding I strongly suggest getting either an automatic scooter or a semi-automatic bike. You really don't want to have to be fiddling with gears until you've had a good amount of road experience. I currently ride a Sym Symply 125cc scooter which is a great little runner and has good petrol mileage.

That but in Black.

Before that I had a Keeway Partner 110 which was a semi-automatic. It was an alright scooter to say I paid £350 for it, then had a crash :S

Also if you're new, try and buy second hand. You will probably have a crash a while after you buy it so there will be no point in paying shitloads for something that's going to get ruined not long after purchase. Not saying go for a pile of scrap but try and get something cheepish that will do you for a bit.

Atm I have an MBK but I don't really like it that much anymore and I've been getting a lot of problems with it lately so that's why I wanted to switch. But yeah the gears might be the biggest problem with the Derbi...

And yes, I do plan on buying it second hand.

why you would ride a scooter is beyond me, all my dads mates and my dad ride 650cc+ and the shit you'd get for riding something under 250cc gives off the impression you may as well take it up the ass.

at least that's what it's like here.

I will explain something for you:
Scooters are cheap, reliable, easy to ride, can be fast (mine can do 75+ which is very very good for a scooter and tbh I don't need it any faster) cheap to run and depending on what brand you buy, can last for a long time.
Also in the UK there are very strict rules on what you can ride at a certain age. I am now 19 and my CBT renewal (Compulsary Basic Training. I.e license to ride) is coming up so I will be taking my A1 and A2 tests instead (So I can ride up to a 250cc vehicle) so I can ride on a bigger engine.

Also something which I doubt that you took into consideration before posting that comment:

Some riders are new and want something simple to ride to gain road experience before moving onto a bigger vehicle (like me).
Some riders do not need/want a big engined bike because they might just need something to get to work and/or college (like me again).
Some riders simply don't give a fuck about ego and get something to suit them instead of thinking about how big they want their dicks to seem.
Some riders are a certain age so have restrictions on what they are legally allowed to ride.
Some riders aren't you, your dad or your dads mates.

I will admit I would love a nice and powerful bike because they seem cool, but I would rather get to that bike knowing that I will take care of it,myself and take care of other road users and not end up killing myself or someone else.

our road laws state that once you've got your learners (lasts 3 months) you can ride anything short of a 600 and after that you can ride anything else, and I thought our laws were bad lol.

i wasn't intending to be offensive but apparently you took it the wrong way.

Where you can go hours with out seeing another soul, so the chances of getting hit/hitting someone is low.
Here in Texas Scooters are used as training bikes sometimes you can only ride up to 250cc and you get a Motorcycle training permit when you're 15. In my family(Big biking one...) we use 200cc/p50s to train on, before moving on to the big ones.
Personally for city riding, a scooter is the best you need, not some loud 600cc penis extension.
