I love that you dedicate yourself so much to Outlands, with the map updates and map changes. Keeping RP fresh for all the Outlanders!
More on topic, this new map is looking great. Though you can only see the rough details thus far, I can manage to see different elements shaping up within the map; enough of them to know this'll be a good one. Keep up the great work gai
What are you suggesting?: A rundown Homestead / Rurally-Based Farm House What style will it be in?: Old, Abandonded, Renovated for Resistance, Foreign
Will it have any special features such as moving doors or traps? If so, list them below.: This is kind of a tall order, but I'll give it a shot. The whole concept includes a series of buildings: A farm house (including a cellar, ground-floor, and top-floor), a barn (wooden and unpainted, abandonded), and a small outdoor shed / small garage. As far as special features go, there are a few little details that would be great to include, but aren't "must-haves". A small escape tunnel featuring hidden access doors running from the house to the shed, and togglable lights in the farm-house, barn, and shed would be great. As far as the cellar goes, it should only be accessed from one storm-door outside the house, against one of the walls.
Reference Pictures:
Cellar
Spoiler for Hiden:
Open Cellar-Storm Doors:
Closed Cellar-Storm Doors:
Cellar Steps:
Cellar Interior:
Cellar Furniture: cs_militia couch, generic table with HL2 radio on top (could play static or forgiegn languages like original bunker)
Extra Details: - Maps (The hanging effect kind, like these:
- Lights should be dim, perhaps even flickery, to increase feelings of darkness & claustrophobia in the cellar - A few Crates against the walls could be good as well, to give the cellar a 'lived-in' look.
Shed & Tunnel
Spoiler for Hiden:
Shed Exterior:
Open Shed Doors:
Closed Shed Doors:
Shed Interior:
Gas Lamp:
Trapdoor (Into Tunnel):
Tunnel Ladder:
Tunnel Interior:
Tunnel Ladder (2): Obviously, just about the same as the first one, except this one exits / enters under the stairs in the house
Shed Features: Tables / Counters against walls, Shelves fixed to walls above tables. Maybe a green metal cabinet or two, for more of a storage feel.
Barn
Spoiler for Hiden:
Barn Exterior:
Sliding Barn Door:
Barn Interior:
Barn Chainlink Cage: A generic 'cell' to hold people in one place. Should be able to be opened ICly only by those with keys to the lock.
Barn Lighting: Actual light props shouldn't be nessecary, as the holes and cracks in the roof could let enough light in
Barn Details: - A busted Pickup truck would be a neat feature, especially for the server's engineer / techy types. - Some generic tables and chairs, for people to sit and converse on - Hay bales, to re-enforce the farming history of the building - Food Boxes, like that big prop you can find in cs_milita - Some Crates and / or cardboard boxes, for more of a 'lived-in' atmosphere - Wooden Targets (An idea I thought I'd throw out there, for people looking to practice ICly with firearms or other weps)
Ground Flooor
Spoiler for Hiden:
Ground-Floor Interior:
Stairs: This should give the general idea where somewhere on that wall could be pushed asside, to access the tunnel to the shed.
Fireplace: Pretty much just like the one in the inn, on the current rp_ineupass
Kitchen: If you've ever played rp_coast, I was thinking something much the same as the kitchen inside the multi-floored house. Basic kitchen amenities could be made (Fridge, Stove, Cabinets, Shelves, Counters, etc.)
Bathroom: Just think tiny and cramped, with a cracked mirror, sink, and toilet
Top Floor
Spoiler for Hiden:
Topfloor room one:[/color] Some sort of room made to accommodate medical operations
Topfloor room two: Empty. Let players do whatever in there.
Topfloor bathroom: Just about the same as that on floor one, except with a shower
Open Sniper's nest / Widow's Watch: A sort of look-out, for players to see out over the homestead
Extra Notes: Sorry for the hefty request and all the pictures. This started with just a little idea, and sort of flourished. I hope you can work it into the map; if not, that's fine too. I'm just happy to have my idea heard and considered.
** Layla marches her way up from the basement. Her tiny, dark figure was practically invisible in the shadows of the lowest floor of the inn, therefor having seen the exchange between Ali and Scruffy. She shoves her way through the gathering crowd, approaching Matthew, though curiously not mentioning Ali's interaction. **
"I need a favor. Some mutual accomplices of mine are dropping off some things off about a mile outside the pass, and I need someone else to make sure it gets back safely."
** Meaty spits on the inn door, struggling so much as walk down to the bar to get more alcohol. Halfway down the street, he vomits again, and loses consciousness on the pavement. ** Ali, still in a rush to escape the scene in the basement, practicly slams into Edwin on her way out. Startled, and in the midst of a panic attack, she dashes off as quietly as she can to get some fresh air. **
** Ali bites her bottom lip, a look of wanting in her eyes. She shakes her head dismissively.
"Uh.. N-no, I've never done any of that stuff."
** Ali cocks her head, hearing Matt's distinctive tone upstairs. Without further word, she retreats across the room, taking the door into the kitchen do avoid her being caught with such unpleasant company. **
Violence is primal. Since our earliest ancestors clawed their way from the ocean, it's been dog-eat-dog. A struggle for food, for women, for habitat, or something similar. Conflict, struggle, violence; they're all part of being human.
But war isn't.
What is war, in it's most unadulterated form? It's a battle not for yourself, but for someone else. You aren't being benefited any more; it's not a battle to fuck a woman so you can continue your species. It's now all about resources, territories; defending your god or defending your leader. Point being here, humanity is about survival, war is about profit.
For example, see these picture below as reference:
This is a graph of Haliburton's stock price, and how it has doubled since our involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq. It's also interesting to note (though I couldn't find a graph to visually represent it), that while Haliburton's stock has doubled, so has the mortality rate of US soldiers.
Obviously, I encourage you to leave your opinion on this philosiphical debate below. I look forward to both reading your observations & interpretations, and commenting on them as well.
** Ali bites her lip nervously, taking advantage of Edwin's temporary distraction to slink after Scruffy, down towards the horrid smelling basement. **
** Meaty struggles to twist his way around to face Matt, the horrid, fiery, almost aerosol-like alcohol on his breath blowing full strength into his eyes and nose, a subconscious method of freeing himself. **
** Ali smiles, clearly enjoying Edwin's strange sense of humor, and the irony of his calling her clothing 'abstract' **
"Abstract? You're one to talk, Mister Bow-Tie. Actually, you didn't mention your name-"
** Ali is promptly cut off by Meaty's impeding inebriated presence. He claps her on the back, and runs his greasy sausage-esque fingers through her red hair, stopping momentarily for a sideways comment:
"How's my favorite whore, then? Eh?!"
** Meaty wastes no time in moving on down the hallway, leaving a thin chance for anyone to regard his drunkeness, or his rudeness. Ali frowns, turning back towards Edwin. **
"I-I... I was saying you didn't mention your name either."
I'm genuinely impressed and actually somewhat inspired by this method of story telling. Although I've seen images incorporated into IC stories before, never have I seen it done so seamlessly as it is done here. Spooky ending, I might add.
** Ali eyes Scruffy as she's lead away by Edwin. The familiarity of an ex-drug user would be common between them. She gapes, somewhat longingly, at Scruffy, before shaking her head dismissively **
** Meaty drunkenly saunters into the inn. He utters a disgusting belch, reeking already of cigarettes, sweat, and alcohol. He flashes a yellow, toothy grin at the individuals inside the inn, flashing a questionable wink at Ali from across the counter. **
" 'ello you gigantic cunts! I trust I've been missed!"
**Meaty laughs horridly, before coughing up a small deposit of vomit and blood. He immediately resumes his posture, grinning around at everyone in the building.
Layla continues to push against him, eventually exerting the remainder of her energy with a single frustrated scream before backing up into the lobby. Her hair clings to her brow and in front of her eyes from the sweat of the ordeal, and her hand shakily clutches her pistol. While clearly not appreciating being spoken down to in such a childish fashion, she manages to spit out a few final words before retreating towards the basement.
"Enjoy the hospitality of the inn... though you might find it lacking."
** Layla says nothing. Her eyes burn down at the hardwood floor, her entire body trembling in anger. Finally she reaches a breaking point, hurtling across the floor and throwing all 90 pounds of herself against the unit. While not enough to make any significant progress towards shoving him away, her vigor and rage would prove an intimidating enough factor for any individual, unit or no. **
** Layla glowers, stubbornly spits words out between her teeth as she glares at the floor. The comments on her size seem to have effected her very much. **
