<::|| With each passing day, the opinions of both sides of the great conflict become more apparent. It is obvious to me that citizens fail to realize what all we protect them from. It is events like the one that took place today that really assist in demonstrating Civil Protection's true meaning in society. Citizens too often resort to seeing us only ass oppressors which are here to keep them down, and demean them, when in reality we DO actually provide them with numerous protections, as our name implies. This was made apparent today during a conflict in the streets.

From what I understand of the situation, two recruits were accosted by a free-roaming necrotic. The necrotic appeared to have come somewhere from behind the P3 HAP, and was assaulting the units when an 11-99 call for assistance came in. The area was soon flooded with units and as expected, most of the citizens had already fled the area in fear of the creature. Those brave enough to remain behind and watch witnessed that which Civil Protection provides to society: protection. Commander 03109 even responded to the situation, and was the only unit that directly confronted the necrotic. I assume all of the lesser units held fire for fear of striking the commander. We kept our guns trained on the necrotic, no less, and watched in awe as the commander battled with it. It is of no surprise that he was easily able to best the creature, and end its horrid life.

In other news, I have been watching the units below me. 017, 911, and 699 to name a few. They all follow the exact same path I did when I was of their rank. They are becoming colder, and less bothered by the constant screams of horror that fill the halls of the nexus. Personally, I feel that that is the true horror that floods the nexus. The lack of caring. As units rise in rank, they become used to horrible things, and nothing surprises them as it did when they were young. They grow used to the sight of blood, and rotting flesh. They are able to stomach anything, and become perfect followers of the Union, as all units will eventually. It is truly a devastating sight, but it is a circle of life that must always continue, or else society as we know it would fall apart beneath us.

As I write this, I recall a rather interesting situation that happened before I began writing this log. It was that of a rogue unit. I cannot recall the unit's exact digits, as it has been a while since he fled to P3. I was a TrO at the time, and I was the highest ranking unit in the room aside from a UED and an EU. The UED had purposed that the loser in a brawl between recruits would suffer amputation. I knew for a fact that this was a joke, as it is commonly used to scare RCT's anyway, and put them in their place. There was an 05 unit who had apparently never had this gag used on him as a recruit. He drew his weapon, and fired on the UED, accidentally striking an 01 in his attempt. Obviously upon doing this, he fled the room followed by a hail of gunfire. I alone pursued the unit. As we ran down the long hall outside of the medbay, he turned and fired an Mp7 at me. This was truly a shocking experience for me, because despite my time in the CCA, I have never actually been fired upon. I returned fire, maiming him with a shotgun blast to the midsection before he fled.

The SeC came out of stasis to witness the situation, and I assisted him directly in searching everywhere, high and low. We never found him, and from what I heard in the next passing days, the unit was caught, and amputated for high treason against the Union. Never in my time in the CCA have I seen a unit dare draw a weapon on another unit, and I hope I never witness it again. We are all brothers and sisters in the CCA, and we all reach for the same goal. We should never fight or squabble with each other, for all it does is show that we are weak, and capable of being defeated. ||::>

New Log Opened:

<::|| I have created this log in hopes of examining my own personal psyche as well as those around me. I hope that this log will serve as an educational tool to units of the future when I am either dead, or my service to the grand Universal Union is deemed no longer necessary. I plan to mainly update it in accordance with my own thoughts on situations or events that strike me as personally amazing, or horrifying. Should this log ever come across eyes other than my own, or those of High Command, I request that the unit in question not take anything read personally, as these thoughts are my own, and not that of the union, or any High Command official (other than myself, if I ever make HC for some reason).

The first, and likely only noteworthy event I noticed today was that of an uncalled for amputation. Unit 121 of NOVA division was assigned to line duty during RDC today by myself. A citizen had become malcompliant, and refused to leave the line several times after having been asked to do so by 121 and myself. 121 apparently assumed that the appropriate action to respond with would be to pepper the citizen with MP7 bullets. Now, there are two main reasons that this action frustrates me. For one, he killed a citizen without authorization in front of all of his collegues. For two, the citizen stepped aside as he was firing, and one of the bullets nearly hit me. I am sure that should one of the bullets had stuck me, he would've been amputated. I am currently unaware of what his fate was, as I was instructed to leave before the NOVA division leader could administer the punishment.

I suppose I should've started this log sooner, so I could document my personal change on my path up the rank steps in the CCA, but it is too late for that now, and I thank myself for starting nonetheless. To all those reading this, remember that knowing a person's psyche makes you their master. If you are able to understand how a person thinks, and feels, you truly become their dominant figure. When they said that 'knowledge is power' in the days before the war, they were not joking around. Knowledge is the most dangerous thing these days, and it can either make you strong, or get you killed. ||::>

IC Chat / The Candyman
« on: July 11, 2012, 08:28:47 AM »
I wasn't sure where to put this. Feel free to move it if necessary.

Character Name: Steven 'Candyman' Rhodes

Age: 35 [Born October 3rd, 1981]

Fatal Flaw/Defect: Mentally Unstable, Unpredictable.

CID: -

Physical Description: Tall and looming with well-kempt brown hair, sharp teeth, walks with a slight wobble at all times.
Spoiler for Image Referance:

Mental State: He has a very high IQ, and is supremely intelligent. This intelligence can sometimes lead him to think differently than most normal humans, meaning he has trouble conveying some ideas to others.

Physical State: His physical form is quite pathetic, quite different from his metal state. He is physically weak, and cannot perform most tasks that require physical force. He uses his intelligence to get him out of certain situations, and relies mainly upon knives and blades to keep him safe.

Background:
Steven originally grew up in a small town in Kentucky known as Oaksville. He grew up as an orphan, and never had the chance to meet his parents. All during his teenage life he stayed in the orphanage, doing not much more than reading, writing, and constantly re-watching the original Charlie and the Chocolate factory movie. The orphanage owners had noted that he had an abnormal obsession with the movie, the scene involving the candy shop owner singing of the candy man in particular. As he grew older, his caretakers became less and less comfortable with being around him. They had good reason for this fear however, as Steven had been staying in the orphanage less and less as well.

Steven's time on the streets taught him to fend for himself, as he would often be confronted by intimidating gang members that would beat him to a pulp and steal anything of value he had on him. He learned over time to fashion knives and weapons out of common items one could find on the street. Broken pipes, abandoned plastic forks, anything he could find, he found that he could hurt, or even kill someone with. This adaptation usually led to him harming people that he assumed would hurt him, but were in reality perfectly innocent. He managed to cover these incidents up, and was never connected to them. As time wore on, and Steven's mind started to become less and less tied to reality, his caretakers became even more eager to see the last of him. During a chilly evening in late fall, he had been watching the candy man's song over and over again as per usual, when he cracked. He sat in his room for about fifteen minutes, fashioning a bent piece of metal into a shiv of sorts with a file, and wrapping cloth around the end of it to make it into a handled blade. Once his weapon was complete, he stood, perfectly calm and left the room. He proceeded down the hall to the owner's office, and stabbed his caretaker twenty-seven times. The caretaker died at the fourth stab.

After this event, he was never seen near the orphanage again. Though he was suspected to have committed the crime, the police were never able to tie the caretaker's death to his name, and he was allowed to roam free without capture. Now comes his true life on the street. He spent most of his adult life wandering the streets, drifting from groups and gangs, taking initiations and rituals to enter each one. From his time in gangs he learned how to fashion metals down to the bare parts of weapons, and turn even common house-toys into proper weapons that would fire bullets as efficiently as any regular gun would. Though his weapons were indeed useful, and very convienient, they had a higher chance of failing and locking up than other guns would. While they were not perfect, they did serve their purpose. After experiencing a near-death experience in one of these gangs, he decided it was time he quit his kid-life, and attempted to adapt with normal society.

Despite his shady past, he was able to find a good, albeit low-paying job, and managed to work his way through a cheap college to get a degree working with a small medical center in northern Kentucky. He worked with this facility until the day of the seven hour war. At the time of the invasion, he managed to hide himself in the radiology department until the loud booms and roars of gunfire and death had left the air. The facility was soon raided by the combine forces, and he was dragged off to a city center to begin his new life under union rule. Seeing the atrocities and horrors the combine committed caused his mind to revert back to his "cracked" state, and he now lives in Precinct Three, silently plotting his next move, all just to rattle people's cages, upset society, and upset the norm.

Strengths - Skills/Traits: Above Average Intelligence, Able to make knives, blades, or blunt-force objects out of any common item he finds lying around.

Weaknesses: His intelligence is of the sort that he is unstable, so he may sometimes have fits, or lose his mind for short periods of time.

Accent: Northern Kentucy

Mannerisms: Hates being dirty. Keeps himself clean at all times. Always makes eye contact with both friends, and his victims. Does not enjoy being referred to as "Steven" or "Rhodes". He created the name "Candyman" as a way of transforming himself into what he feels is a better person.

Half-Life 2 Roleplay / Re: RP_City45_Catalyst_x1e_r
« on: July 09, 2012, 11:20:22 AM »
Nobody is on outlands. At any rate your comment is irrelevant because it does nothing to address the fact that the main faction of HL2RP, which it seems I need to remind people, is the citizens, gets almost zero attention. What about the apartments in D6? Just spruce them up. Do something for god's sake. Don't just remove Precinct Two for no reason whatsoever.

I am ignorant of coding and what generally causes RSO, but lights in the apartments that turn on and off are too much while the CCA gets a giant elevator, secret rooms all over the map like the torture room in the train station, a huge elaborate base that they obviously do not need, lights and props all over the Nexus including interrogation chairs that generate lightning when turned on and tons of other excessive nonsense. Don't even get me started on the small little CWU base that nobody seems to care about.

Well, I suppose you could always take this as the combine furthering their invasion on the privacy of citizens. In all fairness, citizens are not supposed to like the way things are anyway. It is supposed to be a brutal and oppressive rule, which makes them want to do anything to escape from it. The fact that you are upset by the CCA having it better just means that the immersion-effect is doing it's job.

Events / Re: [SUGGESTION] Power Outage
« on: July 09, 2012, 11:08:30 AM »
Wasn't this already suggested?

Personally I've never seen this happen, it sounds quite fun but its a bit hard to immerse yourself into because OOCly everything is still running.
It would be much easier to do this event now, considering the recent change to a much more awesome night map.

Events / Re: [SUGGESTION] Uprising?
« on: July 09, 2012, 11:06:37 AM »
I don't like the idea of just leaving weapons and ammo lying around in P3. This would too easily lead to minges getting their hands on them. While I don't like the idea of the event itself, if such a thing were to happen, I feel that guns should only be given to a few trusted individuals on the resistance side of things. The way things are run now, guns are very restricted, and Kronic doesn't really want any citizens to have guns. As far as I am aware, me and one or two other people are the only players that have citizens with guns.

I admit this event would be doable, but honestly it would kind of ruin it for other players that are just coming onto the server, or are new to HL2RP. Upon first hearing about this game mode, I was so happy to see it, and I'm sure if I had joined a server to see a bunch of shooting and gunfights, I probably would not have stuck around long. The whole experience of HL2RP is being in a state of oppression from the combine.

Accepted CWU Applications / Delilah Haynes's Civil Worker Application
« on: July 05, 2012, 09:43:28 AM »
~IC PART~

Full Name: Delilah Haynes
Citizen identification(CID): 8134
Last Assigned Apartment Number: A2
Total Loyalist Points: 2
Sex: Female
Age: 23

How long have you been in City45:
I have been in City 45 for nearly a week.

Why do you want to join the CWU?:
I want to join the CWU to help improve the quality of life for citizens. I want to demonstrate that support for our union can be a very beautiful thing. I also want to help keep people happy and eager to help out the union.

Have you ever been detained before?(If so why):
I have not ever been detained before.

Past experience with work/labor:
I was a laborer in City 11 prior to moving up to City 45. The work mainly consisted of helping the Civil Protection forces to maintain sociostability, while also providing care to the citizens. We sold food and medical supplies to help out citizens as well.

Name 4 things the CWU Can possess, and 4 things we cant. Also state why.:
Allowed Items:
1. Radio
2. Medical Supplies
3. UU-Approved Foods / Beverages
4. Flashlights

Not Allowed Items:
1. Weapons
2. Drugs
3. Alcohol
4. Non UU-Approved Foods / Beverages

Tell us about what you can do.:
I am a fairly capable person. I took three years in med school before the combine invasion, so I should be able to apply at least basic understanding of medical supplies and how to use them. I am also familiar with a variety of tools and equipment used for working on machinery.

If a citizen asks for help and is new to the city, what would you do?:
I would show them all around the city. I would show them where they can find a house, where they can shop, where rations are found, and where they can go to ask for help, such as the nexus or the CWU HQ. I would help to familiarize them with the area as best I can before letting them wonder on their own.

~OOC Section~

Name: Sectus
Timezone: US Eastern {GMT -5}
SteamID: STEAM_0:1:37175424
Roleplay Experience: Six Years
Serious Roleplay Experience: Five Months
Detail a regular day as a worker of the CWU?:
I would wake up at about 8:00 AM as standard for most citizens under the rule of the union. Delilah would take her off-duty clothes, and work uniform and brush her teeth and use the bathroom. She would then head to the showers and wash up before dressing into her uniform, and report to the CWU HQ and running a check on the place to make sure that everything is in place. After that, she would head on out and establish a shop in the park for citizens to purchase food at.

Next Delilah would move to the CWU Medical HQ, and make sure that everything there was alright, and running well. She would check to make sure that there are no wounded citizens that need assistance, and if so, she would administer them aid. After this she would head on outside to see if any citizens in P1 needed further assistance from her. She would then return to her apartment around 7:00 PM, and begin getting ready for sleep, as standard for most citizens.

Character Backstory:
Delilah grew up in Los Angeles California. To say the least, life was easy for her to start off. She had a great family, great friends, and she lived in the entertainment capital of the world. She went to the finest school in the area, where she achieved top grade, and was praised by all of her teachers. She soon graduated from high school with a degree in medical aid. She would have gone on to be a doctor, but the combine invasion took place before she would have been able to do so.

She was able to hide in one of the many panic rooms around her family's house. Most of her family was not so lucky however, and they were killed in one of the many bombing runs administered by the combine forces. In the aftermath, most of Los Angeles was left a smoldering ruin, and she was dragged out of it and slapped into a blue jumpsuit, and forced to adjust to the new rule of the combine. She did not like it at first, but soon learned her place, and learned how to cope with her new overlords.

General Discussion / Re: A little HL2 question...
« on: July 04, 2012, 11:02:13 AM »
Well, that question comes with literally endless possiblities for answers, or solutions. If the situation should arise that Freeman died in the opening mission in canon, literally thousands of things could happen. Perhaps the resistance did not really need Freeman, and were able to overthrow the Union on their own? Freeman's mere presence actually caused many of the events that happened in the game, some leading to hardships for the resistance.

I suppose if the story arc did proceed in the other direction, it would take a while for them to use up human kind. In canon, it is about five years after the Union assaulted Earth, so judging from the conditions in the game, I would say that it would take about ten or twenty more years for them to entirely use it up. Eventually the existing generation of humans would die out, and the Earth's resources would all be absorbed by the Union.

Also, a thing that many players tend to forget, the Union is a Universal Union. They span several plans of reality and other dimensions. The events that occur in-game of the Half-Life series are literally a forgettable occurance for the Grand Advisors. I am sure that even if Earth overthrew the Union in that particular area, if they really cared, they would be more than capable of re-capturing it. That is why I now find the resistance to be literally futile, because no matter what they do, or how they fight, the Union just cannot be beaten on a realistic basis. The whole human race could fight the Union for ten years, spanning several generations, and it would do little to nothing.

Denied Authorizations / Re: Adam Raven's Authorization Application
« on: July 01, 2012, 07:18:08 PM »
Deleting the character seems like a major overreaction to me. You act like the only plot point to your character is having the pipe, which I am sure it isn't. Characters are not defined by the weapons they have, rather, they are defined by the characteristics and quirks they display. You shouldn't allow not having a weapon to be the reason to delete your character.
