Word of advice though: Lucid dreaming doesn't, to my experience, provide as much rest as a normal night's sleep. So don't do it if you need to get up early. You'll hate yourself.

Clarabelle Vermaine's Civil Authority Application

IC Character Name: Clarabelle Vermaine

1) Please write a minimum of 3 paragraphs OOC'ly detailing why your character wishes to join the Combine Civil Authority and what lead your character to do so.
        Clarabelle has always been a loyalist, since the first City she was placed in. She has respected the CCA for their nobility and the fact that they are completely willing to lay down their lives to maintain peace within the City. She respected them, too, for the fact that they established peace throughout the world in a matter of seven hours, a task that Earth took centuries to try for, and to no avail at that. Her respect for the CCA is such to a point that she feels as though she could best serve the City amongst their ranks. It would be an honour for her to be accepted, or so she believes.
   Granted, she has never stayed in a city for long, she still respects the Universal Union and all involved with them. She was transferred from city to city, never staying a city for more than around a week, and definitely not enough time to get into the CCA for a particular city.  Despite this fact, she knows that, although it is a secret, there is probably a good reason for these transfers. City after City, she kept getting transferred to no end, finding herself in cities such as City 68, City 27, and City 83.
   Eventually, Clarabelle Vermaine found herself within City 45. It was simple enough, with boundries that defined themselves easily, such as District Six being a place where one such as herself  should NOT go. She slowly gained Loyalist Points by doing mennial tasks, such as turning in contraband or cleaning windows. Then, a lucky break came along. She was exploring a bit and getting used to the City, when a man approached her. He was attempting to amass a small anti-citizen group. Long story short, she managed to get away from the small established base, request a CCA unit whom apprehended 2 of the anti-citizens, and she also turned in the contraband that was provided to her. This was what got her into loyalist status, and her armband and the ability to apply for the Combine Civil Authority.

2) Please detail your characters traits. (Eg, Pure, Lawful, Trustworthy)
Clarabelle Vermaine is trustworthy, obedient, and quick-thinking, but she is also quick to jump the gun, and is a bit stubborn in her ways. She is hard to sway from her opinion without incentive. She is also willing to exert whatever power over others that she has, and will gladly lay down her life for her comrades.

3) Please provide 2 paragraphs about what you are expecting the Combine Civil Authority to be like for you and your character.
         For me, I feel the CCA will be a chance for me to expand my horizons of RP. Although, I have been a CP on another server, I think that I will be able to go farther in the ranks of this server. It gives me an opportunity to improve my general RP skills. It also gives a more focused experience on characters with a higher authority than a run-of-the-mill person. I feel that being in the CCA will allow me a powerful character in a way, and allow me to see from not only the citizen perspective, but a UU perspective, too.
   My character, however, will probably have a difficult time within the CCA. Her very nature conflicts with the CCA. She is a loyalist at heart, but a rebel at her roots. She will fight for what she thinks is right, unless she knows it's a losing battle. Her intentions may be good, but her delivery is not always the best. I also imagine her meeting people, and, despite the uptight nature of it all, befriend them and have allies that she will help to her very last breath.

4) Please provide a detailed back-story from an out-of-character perspective on your applying character. This section must be detailed and consist of a minimum of 300 words.
          Clarabelle Vermaine was born into the world in 1995 weighing around 8 pounds, with bright blue eyes that turned to green in the next few years. She had an older sister, who was 6 at the time of her birth. About 3 years later, her little brother was born unto this Earth. He young life was simple enough. She spent time with her parents, went to the zoo, had tea parties, and did childish little-kid stuff. Her life was simple. Nothing was difficult, there was always food, there was always water, and there was always entertainment. Her favorite activities were mainly playing old video-game consoles (Although at that time they were fairly new), and playing soccer.
   In her pre-teens, she grew away from her mother, as her parents began to grow apart, too. She spent more and more time with her father, working around his auto-shop and learning about mechanics, and wiring, and soldering. She did crafts, and made Rube-Goldbergs on the walls of her bedroom, until she had one gigantic one that would set off whenever she opened the door, and reset itself as it went along. The only thing needed to be done manually was setting a few balls back into place. She also got to modifying cars with her father, and playing more and more video-games. Her school-life was simple. She wasn't straight A's, or even Straight B's. She was a mostly-B-some-A-few-C student. She belonged to no clique, and was not tethered to just a single idea for a line of work.
   It was not until her early teens that she decided what she wanted to do. It was also in that same time period that her parents divorced. She went to live with her father, along with her brother. Her sister left with her mother. That clicked everything into place, and she decided to go into the career of automobiles. It wasn't girly or sissy, and it gave her something to do with her hands instead of writing or typing in a cramped cubicle all day. It also gave her a good opportunity to not allow her mechanics skills to go to waste.
   Skipping forward, we find her in the seven hour war. She gave up easily, and agreed to move to a city. Her father stupidly decided to fight with her brother. She assumes to this day that they both rightfully perished. Despite her love for her father, she feels no remorse for his inability to see the greater good. Although she occasionally gets mixed in with the wrong kinds of people, she manages to do what's right for the City in the end.

My most memorable RP experience was possibly on a play-by-post forum. Basically, the RP was about the government beginning to control all aspects of people. It was also where I learned on of my favorite words, “conformity.” Granted, I was young, so it was a new and neat word for me. Anyways, I was involved in it with my brother, so that only helped to increase my enjoyment, being able to actually discuss what was happening with a physical being, as opposed to text.

Personally, I think a new engine is a bit much. An overhaul of the Source would be much nicer. Keep the interfaces, just clean it up and make it less buggy. If they do make a new engine, it should at the very least as easily moddable as the Source, because that's one of the big things Source has going for it.

Why do you want to join the CWU?: Joining the CWU has always seemed like the best way I can help my fellow citizens and others, in my opinion. I'm not strong, or fast, or at all cut out for the CCA, but I still love the place I call home, and helping make it a better place seems fulfilling and worthwhile. Plus, it's a great opportunity to learn business and medical skills. I personally am mainly interested in the business side of things, but learning a few medical skills does not seem at all a bad thing to do, and the CWU would give me an opportunity to do it.

Have you ever been detained before?: I have not been detained before, my record is spotless.

Past experience with work/labor: My past labor experiences include co-managing a small grocer before the war, as well as my father being a suit-and-tie fancied up business man. He taught me a multitude of things when I was young, including basic economical ideas. He was a great teacher, and was quite exceptional at getting a point across. Also, I've taken fondly to running a small shop selling items to citizens, such as paper, water, backpacks, and other basic goods.

What will you do for us?: For the CWU, I will attempt to help whomever needs it to the best of my abilities. Whatever I can do, I hope it can help, be it assisting with a shop, or helping out with any medical procedures needed. Although I won't be as much of use in anything medically related, I can definitely help out with a shop or stand.

How long have you been in City45?: Around 2 months, and I've acclimated to the layout of the City quite well, in my opinion.

Can CWU members be in possession of Alcohol?: Only if they are using it in medical procedures, or are otherwise allowed by the CCA. Otherwise, alcohol is contraband.

Can CWU members be in possession of Knifes?: Yes, but only if it is being used for medical procedures, but only during medical procedures. otherwise, they are not allowed.

If a citizen runs up to you and starts swearing what do you do?: First, I would attempt to calm the citizen. If he refuses to calm down, and keeps shouting profanities, I would request assistance using a Request Device. If I do manage to calm down, I would work with the citizen to isolate the root of the problem. If possible, I will help to solve the problem. If the problem is out of my power, I would direct him to the area the could most easily assist him.

Any disabilities?: I have OCD, in that i must have doors closed, and if I spin in one direction, I must spin equally in the other direction to even it out. Things lacking symmetry irritate me, but I can generally ignore that in items I cannot change the appearance of. I am also a serious neat-freak, and i must have everything very orderly. I simply cannot stand a lack of organisation.

Have you ever been in a CWU Related Activity?: I have not been in a specific activity, however I have actually bought milk from a milk stand the CWU was running. (Which, I might add, was refreshing and worth the price.)

Roleplay Experience: I've roleplayed in Play-by-Post for around 5-6 years. I've only picked up on GMod RP, specifically HL2RP in the past 1-2 years. I was first involved with Our Benefactors/Relentless RP (When they were combined.) WHen they shut down, I grew apart from HL2RP. I only picked it back up when I discovered Catalyst-Gaming. I fell in love almost immediately(Cue montage of me spinning around with any character model from CG in a grassy field backed by the cliche love montage music). The admins were great and active, the members were respectful and, for the most part, friendly and superb Roleplayers. On RelentlessRP, I had a CCA unit, and a CWU member, whom was very enjoyable to roleplay as.

Why do you want to be accepted into the CWU?: I want to get into the CWU because I enjoy passive roleplay, and I think participating in the little things that the CWU does would be a grand experience. Another reason, which is not a very good one, but a reason all the same, is that I am a bit of a completionist. I like to do everything that is within my power to do. Don't get me wrong, I always develop a single character at a time, and I never fully abandon a character if I can help it. It's just that, with so much to do I want to do it all.

Character Backstory(Must be one paragraph): Jenna is a simple person with simple goals. She hails from what was New York state. She lived just below Ontario, in what I consider to be Canada's right pocket. Her life was simple, and her education was average. Her parents, however, we not as average as the schools. He father was a big business-man. He ran his own company, a plumbing company, and was very strategic when it came to his line of work. Jenna's mother ran a small street-corner grocer that sold basic items like bread, eggs, milk, etc. Jenna started helping out around the store at about 10, but she kept taking on more and more of the work as her mother grew older and weaker.

At 16, Jenna's mother died, and Jenna took over the store. When people inquired upon her mother's health, Jenna learned to reply that she was simply resting. It was, in a metaphorical sense, true. Life moved on, though, with school, work, and her father's small talks about different aspects of business. Then the war came. Her father gave in quickly to the Combine, and, although she did not live with him, she followed his example. She was quickly separated from her father, ushered into different Cities. for a while, Jenna was transferred around from city to city, until finally she ended up in City 45.

She was average early on, but she wishes to be extraordinary, now.
