Title: Catalyst-Gaming Meetup
Post by: rBST Cow on March 11, 2014, 06:24:27 PM
So basically I proposed this idea to Waffle while on the HL2RP server in OOC last night, he seemed to like the idea so I thought I would share it with everyone.

Everyone knows that Las Vegas is a big tourism hotspot, right? So far we already got 3 CG people living there, such as waffle, kjun, and myself. So I was thinking about planning an event months ahead of time where everyone from catalyst gaming is welcome and can meetup, in person, and meet each other, at a place of waffle's choosing in Las Vegas. It's a perfect spot because you don't have to fly all the way out here just to see other CG people, you can incorporate the meetup with your vacation in Las Vegas. I would very much like to see this happen and Waffle seemed to like it too. Please share your thoughts on this, and hopefully waffle will post in the thread to give us a more of an insight on what he thinks.

i remember the oc meetup and no one but kaz and darth showed up and they drove around in a bentley and decided to give me admin and that was all they did

i cant imagine this'd be too different, i dont think anyone would show up outside of a few people and if they did it'd be too awkward even if u think it wont, i dont think i could meet anyone from cg cos id wanna hit u

cow, rofl and kjun are actually big game casino owners and this is a marketing tactic to get all the cg high rollers to come overseas and spend money at their rigged establishments

Not 21 yet either and I don't think my parents would be willing to finance a plane ticket to Las Vegas to meet up with people who I barely know.  I hope everyone else has fun, though!

if you are going to try and organise a meetup, would be better to do it in a more centralised location to people, not somewhere you already live so you barely have to travel yourself yet we would have to fork out a shit ton of money to get there lol

85% of cg members arent old enough to go drinking though

if this is actually seriously planned try and plan it around an event, im half tempted to say minecon or some disgusting shit but maybe dreamhack in sweden or something esports related in germany or whatever - maybe copenhagen games 4 all u danes ;) ;) or even just insomania/iseries in england cos then i can go and slap all of you

league is rly popular but idk how many people of cg watch it, but u know, dreamhack or some kind of esporty event would work cos theres more than one reason to go there, tho i still cant see a garry's mod community meet up working, only one i really knew that worked was the tnb airsoft events in england

It's in Las Vegas, a HUGE tourism hotspot. People already live in this very town and it's a logical place to meetup just due to the fact that it's a hot spot for tourism. You don't have to fly out here just for the meetup, you can also enjoy the tourism stuff and have a good time.

realisticly, how many of cg is actually that social? cos im not a pussy im not gonna claim to go out every night drinking, that shit's boring for me im rly introverted, i think a gaming event/LAN would be way better suited for most of cg (not that i'd actually show up unless it was england then i think id just go for shits n giggles)

4 example insomnia in england

Click to see the original size.

and dreamhack in sveden

Click to see the original size.

thats lans anyway could always just be a normal event but lans r cool

From what I can tell, most of CG lives in america. So wherever it happens, somewhere in the US seems to be the best place. Perhaps even New York?

May sound cool at first, but it's the dumbest thing. You'll have a retard show up with a gun and shoot you in the face.

Uh, what?  Of all the things I imagined happening if CG members met IRL, that was not on the list at all  :-\

I can just image it. A silent room full of barely post pubescent (and a lot of Pre) dudes with Monster energy drinks :D

Nah I kid. I'd love to come to something like this but I don't have the money for a new passport, plane ticket, accommodation, spending money. If I were a rich man then yeah :D

If this were to happen, it would need to happen somewhere central.

We have people spread around the world, USA, UK and the rest of Europe. the best place would be England as that is pretty much central to all.

One of my old communities had this, although it was based in Canada. Thing was, there was thousands of members and only around 8 showed up. A smaller community like this, specifically one with so many minors, is going to have a harder time getting even a few people.

We would need an event manager for certain regions and perhaps have a few meetups all on the same day at different locations, which will then be a global "Lan" party based on the CG servers (or Hamatchi).

This would most certainly bring more people to the meetups since they don't need to pay upwards of $1000 to get a decent flight somewhere.

Seems more realistic and plausible than a CG-wide reenactment of Hangover.

I would only go a US state that recognizes a SC concealed weapon permit. Nevada isn't one of them. Not sure how well this would work out realistically.

Arizona maybe?

It is settled, we will have Catali Gamings Meetup in Greenville, South Carolina.  Bring your guns, wifes, and kids.  We will shoot all of them.

Serious on SC tho. I cant leave state.

This is why it needs to be done in the US and not overseas, so we can protect ourselves with guns from people with guns.

idk if joking logic, there won't be guns in normal countries so no need to have a gun in the first place

I think they just meant they would be more comfortable conceal carrying a weapon, as they do in their hometown. Makes sense to me. It's not really because they're scared of a meetup lol.

But ye, I don't see why we wouldn't have it in LV if 3 members already live there. The people who don't live in LV will have to pay for transportation anyways.

Keep this on topic about the meetup.

Honestly, the population of the active community is probably half European and half North American. Simply have two meetups, then? Why should Americans have to pay for airfare to Europe or Europeans pay airfare to America? It's an online community, so no one should really have to pay that much money for a meetup.

Yes let's do this. And one in Australia.

For North America I think there would be 3 optimal places:

Las Vegas, New York, or Atlanta(maybe Miami idk)

Pick one of those which is closest to most of us?

We could do a more central state, like Ohio?  Columbus has quite a bit of stuff in it too.  And isnt Chicago around the mid-west area? Im pretty sure.

Columbus ain't that bad, has kings island but beyond that it really doesn't have much. I've been to ohio once for about a week, lots and lots of farmland lol.

Ohio has cedar point, too. I doubt farmland would be fun for a meetup. A city would probably be the best bet unless you plan on gaming.

Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Pretty central and it can easily hold 30,000+  people. And it's Canada so there won't be any lolshootings.

Halifax is about as central as Florida.

If you want to get literal, Winnipeg is the closest big city to the center of the continent (my town is actually the closest civilization) but in relation to population, it would be somewhere in the states just below south Dakota. Besides Winnipeg has nothing to do anyway.

Read posts man, damnit.

A meetup in one place won't happen. Most people here are either minors and can't do long distance and the people that can do long distance can't afford a £2K return flight to the other side of the world and them accomodation on top of that. The only feasible idea I've seen so far is local meets. Like all the Brits meet in britland and all the Canadians meet in Canadia etc.
