Suggestions / Re: Advertise HL2RP within CG servers
« on: May 12, 2013, 10:41:03 AM »
Yeah. The main problem is a saturation in the market. Our server looks just like any other in a long list of the "Clockwork HL2RP" servers

Personally I think a new serious RP built from the ground up with its own separate category name would be the best and possibly only option

Alas, so is the conclusion of many others before you.

This made me so happy, I smiled. The only problem you have with that are the ones who want to keep HL2RP.

Half-Life 2 is an over-saturated scenario/setting for role-play, and whilst there is variation, it's still all the same. Servers that have really pulled people in are the fresh, game-based ones e.g. NVRP (Fallout New Vegas RP), Metro 2033 et cetera. Those are both settings in which the player faces strife as well as hardship, daily. They give growing space enough for character to become interesting and enjoyable.
HL2RP actually has a class, with the role which is in essence — 'The Fun Police'. Combine rule is oppressive, there is no other side to that coin, it's an oppressive, authoritarian, police-state, hell; as such your characters will have limited bounds to expand within their master's clutch (there are interesting characters, don't get me wrong), as a less dedicated, casual player you cannot expand to a reasonable amount.

The main problem with the idea of change, is that you have the fanatical — almost militant — conservatives of the HL2RP server; these people have invested great amounts of time into the personality of characters, the traits as well as their stories. So naturally as such, they're reluctant to let go, I believe Toxic even said something along the lines of: "But my characters story will end in a none, experienced way." The idea of letting go to something they've grown attached to, or depend on is quite daunting if given thought.
So the only ways in which a change of setting would occur is if:
Their characters' story ends in an event or a long enough timeline — the population, or lack of doesn't allow this to happen;
 There is a forced change, in which they have no say — this will stem discontent, even hatred towards the new setting, as well as the possibility of deterring your most dedicated players;
Or that the people come to a conclusion on their own accord — this (from my view on things), will not happen any time soon.

Or something like that

Please no, do you know what the average Hrp player is like? Even if we did do this, people from Hrp would get banned in 2mins for minging or rage quit because they can't find guns.

Just speaking the truth here.

I actually started on HRP and whilst I'm not the greatest of RPers with fleshy, meaty, chewy back-stories and authorisations; I am relatively active.

I only actually found out about the HLRP server by someone saying they're going to play in, whilst they were on HRP. I then went on to a population which was reasonable, and the most popular part of the city was the main plaza — Situated right outside of the spawn point (If I remember correctly). So I had people to interact with and better my experience with.

You do see the odd person from HRP/OCRP, this is clear from their description/attitude, but 99% of us probably started out like that, did we not? From there you ease them in to the experience either with an IC talking/beating, or an OOC lecture.

It's a viable idea in my books, you'd just have to make sure they know it's serious.

Footnote:
The lack of guides in the tab menu, like there was will probably deter a little, as they have to go onto the forums and check through ALL of the threads.

You on about the towering buildings in which everything is done internally?

I think the idea is great, it's all self managing and what not; only problem would be the Vitamin D deficiency rife in an entirely internal society. A small building would be too inefficient to sustain itself, where as a taller building, not everyone would be able to go outside.

It wouldn't be cramped, it would be like those old Gmod 9, tower RP maps, plenty of room, everything is easy to find et cetera; built for optimal efficiency.

Over crowding due to kids? That's what a crèche or schools are made for until they're old enough to leave.
Not much call for adventure and leaving though, as such it would be like living the Truman show, a small area you could never really leave, unless it was able to manage without you.

Building upon the idea of doing it successfully, if it was done, properly then in theory we could do so on another planet; the only real drawback is the hauling of supplies to begin with i.e. Maintenance would be a bitch on Mars, especially with the supply haul.

General Discussion / Re: Make the hl2rp server popular admins!
« on: May 09, 2013, 09:10:18 AM »
The thing with Gmod servers (or any server for that matter), unless it's a niche and you're only server toting Bioshock RP, your best friend is population; which is a proven theory/method (whatever). You get five people on, next thing you know there's ten; the population inclines to a more favourable number. To aid in this cause, you create a rich, interesting environment to hook the player and want to see more unfold. Administrators are not the key to success in the population, the player is.

I've only ever met English-speaking peoples on HL2RP, with the exception of two.
The usual mind-set of 'CITY IS DEAD!' and the popular defiance with the exclamation 'Invite all of your friends!' are both mundane and stupid; best way to create the spark, is to have interesting things happening (which aren't events, before you try to grill me).

The problem I've found with 90% of the HLRP (is the 2 really needed?) players is the lack of spontaneity or open-mindedness; not to say it's totally absent, but it's just not to the same degree of other RP servers.
A power vacuum in P3 could cause groups of power-hungry criminals to contest for areas; as such giving P3 the old air it had — I wouldn't have been caught dead in P3 a few months back on my other characters.
Rather than you typical food/ooc item shop, why not open a barber shop? Someone needs to give citizens their haircuts, at the same time giving an environment of sociability; having the regulars sat around chatting whilst you shave and haircut a man.
Open a P3/sewers clinic (with auths, think Anders from DA2; without auths, think a nice guy that's trying his best with no real knowledge), to help those which have been injured in the power-struggle, illicit activities or those in the wrong place at the wrong time, deal with the laundromat as an IC way of getting really bad bandages out of old/ruined clothing.

Teamspeak is always full of chatter and jabba on the topic of City and it's unfortunate disposition of being just another brick in the wall, there are some great suggestions put forwards, but they never pass the starting line.
This is just my grasp on things, but I could be incorrect to a superlative degree, with a mind slowed by hobbit leaf.

For Lone's signature, you should have either used: white text, a stronger gradient or lost the drop-shadow; the reason for this is rather hard to actually read the text.

This would be fantastic, especially when I want to write overly long kiss-arse letters to CAs

What I think should change with food is, rather than having to wait 40 seconds after eating (I've consumed sandwiches in mass, without a 40 second break), but it's not the downtime before my sandwiches that affects me; it's the amount of time it takes to actually EAT the sandwich.

What I am suggesting here, is rather than 40 seconds brace time for your heart-burn to diminish you have to actually wait for the item to be eaten. Take the petrol (or gas if you'd prefer) station for instance, you have fill the car, but not wait for a minute to fill again. This principle of the filling bar (replace refilling with eating), would make eating an act, rather than an action.

Upon that, the time it takes to eat could be increased/decreased based off of the food you are actually consuming, i.e. the watermelon would take the longest, then the orange taking the least.

Suggestions / Herbalism — Agricultural nations only grow weed.
« on: April 28, 2013, 12:31:19 PM »
Herbalism should extent to plants that aren't weed. The fact that it's such a single-minded skill which is used solely for crime is outrageous when there is a surplus of different plants (with gmod models) in the world.

You ought to be able to grow other plants such as watermelons, oranges, bananas et cetera. If they were given a bonus over the store bought ones (such as a speed boost or increased healing), they'd be more readily bought by players and grown by players. There would then be fruit shops cropping up in the city too, promoting passive RP (if the player wanted to sell to others, or he could sell to the NPC for less).

But that's my opinion.

What's the point in having a price cost to change? You may as well pack ALL the books, go to the hospital and pay 10k for a reset to relearn other skills.

Seems redundant.

Why do you smell like the inside of a shoe? I wash my body in shoe polish everyday
Why do you drink tea? Not as often as you think I drink tea. Why I drink it is simple- upholding national pride  8)
Why do you like doctor who nigger? because it's literally the best thing on tv, yeah i said it, fuck house

I thought the Scottish drank deep-fryer fat, not tea, is this correct?
Do you count getting out of bed as a sit-up?
Do you enjoy RPing with grass?
Are you an advocate of terrible middle-class parties with cheese on a stick?

The nexus prison, doesn't count as the nexus and still doesn't work.

That's all that needs to be said on the matter.

I think the spanner (or wrench if you prefer) should be re-added; 99% of the time there is no damned tow driver on the server, and when there is one it's to tow his friends' cars and then he goes civvies again!

Right now I'm having to walk to subs because some twat totalled my van with an AK clip and no-one is willing to go (a somewhat boring) tow driver. Bringing the Spanner back won't diminish RP as there is usually no RP to do with tow-trucks to begin with!

Say the most expensive car to repair is 5k, either have the spanner 6k or cheaper and REALLY slow at repairing.
