Suggestions / Re: Forum upgrade.
« on: April 06, 2014, 04:18:32 AM »

Where's the logo that goes with this because if I'm honest Rofl's avi is probably the nicest version I've seen :c

Saying that though, sure VB would be a nice upgrade but I'm all for changing up the color scheme design of the forums and such for CG. It's been this way since it's birth and who's to say that a fresh and updated look would harm anything?

What interests you in a position with the Citizen Hospital?
I wish to help people when they get hurt and make sure that people stay healthy while they live in the city. I would like to extend my hand to the kind people that have helped me in the past and help them now.

What skills might you bring to the Citizen Hospital?
I may not be fully qualified to help in the hospital but I did start my journey working for a degree and have spent time in an accident and emergency unit as a nurse before the wars. I had hoped to change up my roll and restart my career as a doctor but obviosuly I ran out of time. I know how to look after general medical treatments and hope to learn more as I move on in this fine establishment.

Out of Character for OOC:
How long have you been playing serious hl2rp with cg?
A ton of time, most notably since It was up as far back as I can remember, I've been here for a long while anyway.

What knowledge do you yourself have on medical care?
I talk to you about medical stuff all the time stat, I'm not exactly knowledgeable but I've learned from my fair share of excrescences about first aid and hospital care etc.

Have you ever done medical rp before? State what, when, and where if applicable.
Done a small time with NOVA last HL2RP, since then not much other than being the victim.

This application has been accepted. Please see the director for an interview.

Applications / Re: Kiwiee\'s Authorization application
« on: March 23, 2014, 04:05:57 AM »
I appreciate both of the comments, I am only going with the equip mostly to make myself stand out more, it adds some extra negative effects to the RP and remember that people can change clothes, I'd only really look into wearing the coat and hood etc. if I was prepping and actually taking on the idea of a raid.

And yeah, I accept that in some areas the application is poorly written, I reiterate that it was started at 5am here and with it now being 8am with no sleep I can hardly say it's my best quality.
I'd happily edit some extra quality in but now I need some sleep. However, if anyone wants to judge the application based solely on how it is and potentially taking in that I hope some, if not most of the admins here know I at least have some decent RP ability in there, having an EsU and OTA unit and using that to at lest give me some benefit of the doubt I'd also accept that.

Again, I'll look at the auth some point in the future if need be, I just need at least a nap.

I'm glad I'm getting feedback though, always nice to see :)

EDIT:
New mind new story, same idea, new writing :)

(I hope almost 2000 words is better for you ;) )

gonna take a swing in the dark here and say you recently played thief or some other assassin-esque game

if i were you i'd put a little more originality into your applications

also a 'small crowbar' is really called a pinchbar, crowbars are the bigger ones
Nope, just thought it would be a nice idea to RP, plus I was challenged to ICly steal from the CWU at some point.

I get your criticism and I accept that it's not the most original thing in the world but hey, it was 5am when I started writing it and I can't exactly change the whole thing up now, I know it ain't the best and definitely isn't my best work.

thanks for the hint, I've changed the name in the app.

Name: Alexandria Sorin
Age: 27
Gender: Female
Affiliation: Neutral (More So Resistance)

Write a detailed in-canon back-story how your character obtained these authorizations.

Alexandria, or Alex, was a young Central-European before the war living on the border of Ukraine and Poland. She grew up in the small town of Sosnica with her family, working the farmland regularly and receiving much of her education from her mother on the weekends. Because of the lifestyle she had, she rarely left the town and rarely met new people.
Fortune must have been in her favor, or potentially lack thereof, when at the age of twelve she stumbled into a black market operation while mindlessly playing and rummaging through the abandoned buildings dotted around the town on her farmland.
She strolled inside the building with flaking white paint on its walls to discover a single light, along with a large, dark, mysterious, and exceptionally wonderfully bearded fellow sitting on an old wooden crate, two large heavy black cases behind him. The man introduced himself as “Nick”. The first encounter was an interesting one and Alex, although concerned and somewhat surprised by the large bearded man, decided to stay and listen.
To Alex it wasn’t at all obvious who or what she stumbled in on, but the small abandoned property surrounded by fields with a single dirt track in and out was home to an outpost and dealing center for a notorious black market trade. The traders would deal in everything from alcohol to people. Little did Alex know what was ahead of her, but little did she know any different.
The bearded fellow, Nick, must have liked the poor girl, she did come across as somewhat rebellious, hell, the life she lived was too simple for anyone with half a mind to have any sort of ambition. He decided to try and converse, build a relationship. She may not be worth much now, but eventually, she may be worth a large deal in his organization.
Since their first meet Alex was deathly interested in what occurred in that place. It was new and different, every weekend when she had her free time for years she would use her breaks in teaching to head over and see if the bearded fellow was still around. At times he was, at other times he merely disappeared for months at a time. Understandable.

This kept on occurring for years until by the age of 14, Alex had become good friends with Nick, and Nick, in return, had begun teaching her his way of life, spinning stories about being for the greater good, the work being legal, and about how he was the “robin hood” of Central Europe. There was Alex, with no knowledge of anything further than the local trading stalls of other towns, hearing the prospect of touring cities, exploring new countries and getting paid for remedial work? How was this not a part of her life already?
She knew she could not leave her family yet, and opted to stay. Nick reluctantly agreed, he had built a trust in her and promised that he would keep on returning, and until she was ready, would begin to teach her more and more about the trade and operations.
Alex’s life continued for the next two years, she became more pubescent and, naturally, this leads to more and more arguments with her life. “She’s a teenager! She can do what she wants now but no! She’s stuck on this damned farm doing work day in and day out with nothing to show for it!” She had come to constant arguments with her parents, only finding the source of joy in life returning to Nick when he was near and listening to his storied and plans and everything that entwined in the web of his work.
When Alex reached sixteen she finally had enough, the arguments and the slow work were nothing for her, she kept her dreams of big cities and dangerous opportunities in the forefront of her mind for months and her parents obviously didn’t have a concern with her leaving, they still argued on and on and on.
She waited until Nick arrived one day, and with a swift pack of her bags, she left the house late at night to join him in the old building.

It was a dark and cold night, her transport was an old military truck, but she sat up front listening to country music in the front, Nick drove and it suddenly became apparent around her that Alex was really switching lives now, was it the shotgun on the spare passenger seat or the crates of valuables in the back? She didn’t have a real clue what was happening, but she swallowed hard and carried on. “It’s better than a farm.” She repeated to herself.
A few nights of travel later and she arrived at a large warehouse surrounded with barbed wire. She couldn’t see it as the truck rolled in but she felt she was watched from every angle, it was concerning. The truck rolled into the large building and came to a rest. As Alex dropped herself down from the truck she took a look around and gawped at the interior. Crates and crates of valuables, weapons, and even a few super cars were in view at the end of the long and open room. This was her new home then.
Nick showed her to her room, it was spacious, and a double bed and fresh clothes awaited her. He told her warm and large food wasn’t a problem and that warm water was available 24 hours a day. Something of a luxury to Alex, she broke down and hugged Nick. The awkward silence afterwards was only broken by a call for Nick’s needs.
Her side of the deal for the quality of life was simple. She worked for her keep and soon, became an aide to Nick’s services. Sure she was behind the group at times doing nothing but watching out for suspicious people or hiding away with a laptop, but she was there, and slowly but surely, over the next two years, she started earning her way up the ladder, traveling all across Ukraine and Poland for her jobs, it was the life she dreamed of, but most importantly, she was making quick money with great friends and company.

By the time she was seventeen Alex was working on large-scale jobs, weapons and luxury car trades were a weekly trade for her, Nick became more and more trusted with Alex’s performance and allowed her soon to take her own jobs.
For her eighteenth birthday, Nick bought her a simple and small leather case, inside it contained a lock picking set and a small clear padlock. “You have a steady hand.” He told her. Although slightly bewildered by the prospect of owning some picks, she gratefully took them and in her and Nick’s spare time, she slowly learned how to open the padlock.
She was elated and each week, Nick would bring her a new padlock or a new clear training-lock to try and unlock and, although it wasn’t great, she did the job only breaking the odd pick every now and then.
Soon she became enthralled with picking, it became her life and she soon, with the nod from Nick, started working in various other parts of the trade other than distribution. She joined one of Nick’s teams that work on obtaining the goods via illegitimate methods as a picker and worked her way through the days, picking basic padlocks at the start, to doors, and eventually the locks to gates and supercar a plenty.
She became an integral part to the business that Nick had created, he was proud, and Alex was enjoying her life.
Years went by, as she obtained herself a high-quality picking kit and her black job clothes. She occasionally looked back at her life in the village, surrounded with guilt, she occasionally broke into her old home to check on her family, leaving them a generous donation to the house funds when she did.

The war was disastrous for Alex. Her life crumbled before her eyes as the occupational forces ran riot over Central Europe. She watches as her black market crew took their arms to defend their livelihood, only to suffer the same fate as the rest of humanity. Alex took shelter in her basement, hiding under an old and rusted overturned bathtub until the fighting stopped.
She emerged with all she took with her, her picking kit, her first padlock, a training lock, and her clothes. She looked around the basement, it was dark but there were streams of light coming from the open door.
As she looked up she realized the fate of humanity. Burning rubble and smouldering remains were all that remained of the town she lived in. There was no sign of Nick or any of the crew, even after frantic and desperate cries for them, she conceded, falling into a ball of tears and anguish.

After a few hours of lament, she picked up her articles, rolled them into her carrying case, slung it on her back and walked out into the town’s remains where she was, eventually, seized by the occupational forces and directed to her new fate.

The Train she was on was old and crowded, everyone was wearing the same blue jumpsuit and nervous expressions, carrying only the few belongings they could grab before being “detained”. Alex held onto her carrying case, her articles of clothing and pick were well hidden between other clothes she pulled from the wreckage of the warehouse to cover them.
The locomotive pulled into her new establishment, a large sign reads C18. This was her new home then? It was dark and confusing, her only thoughts were to hide again. These people killed her friends and family, she was alone and she needed to hide.
Although assigned a room in the “civil housing.” She wandered through the slums and suburbs, frequently changing her hideout as she lived purely off of pickpocketing other people’s foods and goods while continuing to practice her picking skills. She occasionally broke into people’s apartments or buildings in the slums. Ransacking the joint for sustenance before hightailing it out of there.
One time, about two months into her life in the city, Alex was eyed in the room, she was spotted and needed to make a break for it. She stumbled, took a fall on her leave, and dislocated her shoulder in the process. Only escaping certain death because of the compassion and pity of the kind citizen she raided.

Things were going to be rough in the city, so, after her quick visit to the hospital in town where she met a wonderful doctor, she needed to invest her time in learning quicker escape plans, tactics… Freerunning.
At times when she was alone she began looking into very simple things, wall running, jumping, and controlling herself at speed. It wasn’t pulling off well but it was getting there, and it was something to do while she let her shoulder heal.

Alex decided that if the worst were to come to the worst in the city, she’d need something to protect herself, so she make herself two shivs; one out of an old screwdriver wrapped with twine, and the other made of a twine wrapped spoon with the handle sharpened, sharpened over and over again over the stone walls in the slums.

So, she was learning new skills, refining her old ones, and looking after her kit the best she could. Was this the time that Alex Sorin could become her former self? Live up to her mentor and father figure? Could she become the Nick of City 18?
This was the time to tell. It was the time of the Ghost.

What will these authorizations give your character in regards to perks or defects?

+Ability to pick the locks on doors and locks
+Ability to preform acrobatics (free running style) to a basic level IC after a few weeks (OOC time) of practice
+Ability to preform "smash and grab" robberies with the crowbar if things go tits up
+Dark clothes and hood better conceals identity
+Weapon is concealable and light making for easy threatening ability, it's also a weapon

-Picks can get stuck, lock picking can be damned obvious if someone walks by
-Character is physically weak and isn't a fighter, a problem if she gets caught
-Toolkit is fiddly and takes time to preform actions
-Lock picks can jam and break if accidentally applying too much torque
-Free running can lead to falling and injuries if accidents happen
-Locks and toolkit takes maintenance which is a difficult property with such unique tools
-Clothes stands out and looks obviously out of place if in D1
-Weapons are poorly made and likely to break quickly over time
-Being a self taught middle-European makes her English poor, not a good trait if you need to talk yourself out of a situation
-There is always a lot that can go wrong with any type of theft job, most passive tests will incur a /roll -20 (I will need to roll 70+ to pass) during a job
-End of the day I will have to carry all this around with me which is an IC nightmare

What do you plan to do with these perks/defects?
Mostly create RP by breaking into places for food etc rather than visiting ration distributions.
Potentially occasionally breaking into businesses and muggings.
Development for more RP in D2 and apartments/CWU.
Create a depth of RP in D2
MAYBE become a black market of various stuff in the future but it would take another auth again in the future

Will anyone else need these auths? (If so, list OOC and IC name(s))
Nope.

Extra Notes (optional):
Obviously all of this equip and perks are open to discussion and change.

Table Talk / Re: Food for thought; Voting Systems
« on: March 21, 2014, 06:26:18 PM »
It's something that's been in my head for a long time aboot.
Although I have no problem with using C8 (fuck me it's architecture is beautiful and have you seen the APC Hold?!) it was my look at the polls results, with C8 having exactly 50% of the votes that brought it to light in my head and I thought I might as well have shared my views on it.
I don't particularly have a problem with either and as people have said. With C8 having scope to be improved I think c8 is the way forward IMO.

Regardless, the topic of this post isn't that poll. It's the system that decides the victor of said poll. I would personally like to keep this away from being a C45/C8 debate and keep this about the voting systems and the many many many varieties that exist.

Table Talk / Food for thought; Voting Systems
« on: March 21, 2014, 06:20:12 AM »
So I went on a bit of a rant about potential voting systems and why the current "most votes" system might be flawed.
I've decided to pretty much copy the entire thing into here because I'm interested in knowing people thoughts on this, so here:

EDIT: Food for thought

For reference, the tally as it stands:

Another thing I'd like to discuss as food for thought, probably not the place and I'll make a thread elsewhere is your vote tallying system.
as it stands right now C45 has the most tallied votes, however, only half of the current voters want C8.
If you "want to keep everyone happy" you need a majority vote (50%<) to change the map or only use this one to decide the two front runners and rerun a vote with only C45 or C8 again.

Why?
Well lets think of it as a two-way representation.
at the time of this posting C8 has 50% of the votes. This means 50% of the people do want C8 or want other alternatives
So? What's the big problem.
Well people use "votes" to see what "most of the people want". Am I right? As a community you should go with what most people want imo.

Well, if someone were to say, add a vote to some other option. Say, C45 or any of the others, then, at the moment in time, C8 would still be the front runner. it has most votes, surely?
No.

At this time it upset the 50% balance so that C8 now has less than 50% of the votes.
Again, looking at the binary perspective, things have changed.
sure, just under half of the people want C8, but now over half of the community want an alternative. Could this mean that given only the option of C8 or C45, C45 would win by a higher margin by way of, say, "compromise"? Possibly.

So, just my food for thought.
Should this be a preliminary poll to decide two options to battle it out in a final vote over the weekend?
I think so, but that's just my opinion.

Using a graphic to represent my ideas;
Recently in politics in Britain this has been a hot topic, the "alternative voting system".
One of the big things that was discussed was the poll tallying. The BBC at the time made a lovely chart that I'm going to use to explain my thoughts.

For the sake of the people that don't know British politics ill use the colours rather than the party names
Imagine each of your votes counted for one square you will notice that BLUE has the Highest number of individual votes. The current system, and this vote (or any vote), means that this makes blue victorious with 234. Great for them.

BUT WAIT

If we apply a PR system, or using the binary explanation I said before, the people against blue are significantly higher.
If we add red, yellow, and grey up together. you notice that their votes equal 414

What this means is that blue, although at a quick glance has the "most" votes. They have only 36% of the total votes

as a large scale representation. What this means is that 64% of people don't want blue in power. So is it really fair to say that blue wins on a majority vote?

I feel although it's nowhere near important. I think it's something to consider in large-scale community votes like this.

Like I said, the easiest way to fix this problem is to run another poll using the two front runners which gives you a simple %want and %don't want decision.

So, what's your opinion on voting systems? Do you agree with how they are, or do you think the system is flawed and could be changed?

News and Announcements / Re: [03/16/14] HL2RP Update #2

- Removed paycheck from all non-commanding MPF and OTA units. Only the command staff is keeping it. The higher rank you are, the more tokens you get.

Not quite sure if i agree with this one.
I understand that MPF units shouldn't be rolling in it but even at an 04, buying supplements to use ICly and rations for EpUs (as they are technically allowed to initiate rations) means that I think that a paycheck for them should apply, not necessarily a high amount though.
If I've misunderstood your post though I apologize.

Oh, and I'd like to add that some (not sure about all) voice commands don't work through radio anymore.

<::| FORMAT: New Applicant |::>[/center]

Although this section is non-essential and won't impact your application negatively, any screenshots of logs showing a member of the CCA who holds a position of OfC (Officer) and above who are recommending you for a position in the Overwatch faction will be held in high regard:

(NOTE: I'll be asking people for this and editing them in over the course of today. No one is online when I want them to be :( )
Recommendation #1:
Nickumsnero 1405 GRID DvL

Recommendation #2:
Recommendation #3:

1. Steam Name:
KiwieeEh

2. Steam ID:
STEAM_0:1:14465041 I think, doesn't look right but that's what the web says.

3. How old are you?
19

4. What personal qualities do you have that make you suitable for a place in the OTA faction?
Well I like to say I've matured a lot since last HL2RP

5. What is your experience with roleplaying in general?
Did some HL2RP when TnB owned the show about 7 years back, nothing special back then
I lived at OC on OCRP for what it's worth and then ended up here, Spent the entire time on HL2RP since it's original release and about a month before it shut down. I had a DvL OfC EpU 01 03 04 at separate times, I had 2 loyalists, a member of the CWU. I managed to successfully apply for Vehicle flags on outlands and even ICly set up a small radio station out there.
I'd like to say a lot then, but still inexperienced compared to a few.

6. What other characters do you play?
As of right now i play a GRID-04 (71151)
I also play the role of Theo Louis-Dale Richardson who is slowly becoming somewhat disapproved of the MPF.

7. How long have you been involved in serious RP?
I dabbled in it about 6-7 years ago, came back to it for CG, spent the entire time CG was up for on it.

8. How long have you played at Catalyst Gaming?
Since not long after it originally opened.

9. What country and time zone are you located in (please use a GMT- or GMT+ modifier)?
GMT (soon to be BST come the 30th, so GMT+1)

10. Do you have any experience in any factions at Catalyst Gaming or other communities?
MPF, CWU, SCN for all it's purposes, and a very small dabble in vorts when they were first rolled out because I used to test them.

11. Have you ever been subject to punishment in a faction for doing something wrong OOCly? If so, please explain.
OOCly, sure. Well, kind of.
My DvL was OWRd for a major IC fuckup which I initially accepted but then got butthurt about, got the unit back but because of the butthurt got it removed again. It was an immature mistake and I accept that.

12. Do you understand that by being accepted into the Overwatch faction, you are bound to the OOC standards?
O'Course

ASSESSMENT #1 - IC situation: You have just been tasked with escorting a VIP (in this case, a Civil Administrator) from the Nexus to the center of the plaza for a speech. It is expected that an attempt will be made on the VIP's life today at an unknown time. A citizen begins to follow your escort group. You suspect that they belong to a rebel group who intend to kill the VIP. How do you approach the situation? Be creative.
**OTA.VANGUARD.KWIEE maintains his formation, glancing at the civilians surrounding the escort.

**OTA.PANTOM.###### observes a lone citizen trailing the group from afar, he is donning a large overcoat.

(Radio) OTA.PANTOM.###### “<:: VANGUARD Advised, suspicious activity, 6 o’clock of your position.”

**OTA.VANGUARD.KWIEE takes a quick look around, spotting the suspect, and returning his direction forward.

** The civilian notices the glance, altering his direction slightly but still following the group.

(Radio) OTA.VANGUARD.KWIEE “<:: Confirmed visual. Will maintain.”

(Radio) OTA.VANGUARD-E.###### “<::copy.”

** Noticing the commotion in the formation, the civilian becomes nervous and increases his pace.

**OTA.VANGUARD.KWIEE takes another glance, noticing that the civilian has increased his pace and closed in somewhat. A small metallic shine comes from inside the citizen’s jacket.

(Radio) OTA.VANGUARD.KIWIEE “<:: Suspect possibly armed, closing in, advise.”

(Radio) OTA.VANGUARD-E.###### “<:: Suspect is considered threat, engage.”

**OTA.VANGUARD.KWIEE preforms a two-step spin, raising his rifle and directing it towards the threat.

**The civilian, now an identified threat, panics, altering his course and diving for a small stone wall for cover.

**OTA.PHANTOM.###### brings up his rifle from afar, preparing to line up a shot.

**OTA.VANGUARD.KWIEE closes his finger around the trigger, allowing three bursts from his rifle to fly out

** The shots proceed towards the civilian, one creating a large dust cloud as it hits the ground in front of the threat, the other two driving into the stone wall creating large craters in the wall.

**The civilian flinches hard under cover, proceeding to bring out his revolver, taking a quick look at it and inhaling before turning as he stands and fires two shots from the weapon.

**OTA.PHANTOM.###### has steadied his rifle and takes a shot from the roofs opposite as the threat takes his shots.

** The Rifle’s bullet proceeds to travel down to the civilian, a direct shot into the center of the forehead of the threat. The revolvers bullets travel towards OTA.VANGUARD.KWIEE, the first flying past the unit and embedding itself in the floor behind, the other hitting the shoulder plate with some force, embedding itself in the plate and causing the unit to take a step back to steady himself.

** The threat falls backwards, a small red mist settles as he does so.

(Radio) OTA.PHANTOM-###### “<:: Threat is down.”

**OTA.VANGUARD.KWIEE brings up his rifle once more after taking the force from the bullet and proceeds to move towards the downed threat.

(Radio) OTA.VANGUARD.KIWIEE “<:: Moving to confirm.”

**OTA.VANGUARD.KWIEE proceeds towards the cover, keeping his rifle directed square at the last known location of the threat. As he does the formation behind him closes up to accommodate the missing unit.
As he approaches the all he pauses before striding around the corner of the wall, observing the body of the civilian, a large hole protruding through what was once his face, and various pieces of bone and gore in a puddle of deep crimson around him.

(Radio) OTA.VANGUARD.KIWIEE “<:: Confirming threat neutralized, disarming and returning to escort.”

(Radio) OTA.VANGUARD-E.###### “<:: Rodger that, dispatch, send clean-up crew to location.”

(Radio) dispatch “<:: Clean-up crew inbound.”

**OTA.VANGUARD.KWIEE leans down, taking the revolver in his hand and attaching it to his armour before turning to re-join the escort.

ASSESSMENT #2 - OOC situation: The following scenario has taken place: a player who is in command of a criminal character in possession of hidden contraband was in the process of being handcuffed before they suddenly ran away without any valid RP. A member of the administration team locates and brings the offending player back to where they started. The player does not seem to understand the rules of the server. They are frozen in place while the administrator is sent to deal with an urgent matter. Before the administrator leaves, you are asked to explain to the player about what they did wrong. How do you proceed?
This I have a lot of fun doing if I'm totally honest with you and being a CCA member, sometimes I get a lot of opportunities to try and help/explain the situations.
Normally I'd go straight to the beginning and explain that this is HL2RP, ask them if they know of HL2 and the cannon surrounding this, IE factions and the difference between criminals and loyalists. I would then go on to ask them if they know what serious RP is. I start by explaining terms, OOC, LOOC, IC, Powergaming, etc. and proceed to check if they understand it by preforming some (void) situations. After they understand the basic cannon and rules of RP I expand to rules in HL2RP. I explain things such as P2L and other useful things to remember about the server's RP, at this point i would reinforce the fact that people are always here to help and there are always people on the forums that will provide assistance if they need it.
After doing this I try to get them to explain why "lolrunning" is wrong and what they should have done, Again I would ask if they want to try the RP again and see what the different outcomes are when the admin returns. If they agree I would restart the RP and let them try to do the whole scenario again, to see if they have learned from it. If not, we go back and explain further until they either decide that it's not for them and leave (not the preferred outcome but sometimes happens), or they get it right and many OOC cheers are had.

EDIT My bad for involving PHANTOM in my assessment #1. I'm still used to thinking that PHANTOM is a thing because of the time I spent on the old server. I'm aware it does not any more. If you wish I can change PHANTOM back to VANGUARD in this scenario and re-post it, but it's up to you.

you misunderstand my point.
I opened one boxed backpack and got no increased space but it consumed the backpack, Tried again, still no return. As for the flashlight, it never appeared in my weapon selection so I couldn't use that either.

tl;dr what i'm trying to say is nothing i was using/opening/equipping on my citizen char was working. Seems fine on my MPF unit though.
