Suggestions / Re: We need a new Serious RP server!
« on: October 21, 2012, 10:31:30 AM »
*A mysterious man, one of a familiar stench of the past comes into the discussion* "'Sup foo's?"
But more on topic if we wanted something 'original' I have an idea.

MODERN REVOLUTION RP (It's just an idea, don't judge)
Basically it's four years into the future, taking place in NYC. The west side of the country is engulfed in a Civil-War, the east within a high tension point. Although almost all of the soldiers are fighting out west, the government has relied on police forces to have a heavy presence all around the city, and when the (ever so often) times come, to fight the U.S.A's fight in absence for the military. Small-time, allied rebel groups pop up in the most anarchistic, poor, un-controlled areas of the city. Often found having small firefights with the local police and SWAT, or maybe going on small time bombings or heists.

Well Boxy, how the hell is this different then the other ideas? And why are you so retarded?

Well, average Joe of CG, I'm not retarded, and I'm going to compare the settings of ideas and current RPs.
*HL2RP Antagonists: Almost Robotic Army of Supersoldiers/alien synths slowly killing off humanity.
TRP Antagonists: Actual Robotic army killing off humanity.

*HL2RP Protagonists: Resistance members trying to overthrow the Union.
TRP Protagonists: Humans trying to figure out how to destory the robots.

*HL2RP Average-Joe: The poor citizen, living a terrible life in a run down hole, where death follows them everywhere.
TRP Average-Joe: The poor refugee, living a terrible life in a run down hole, where death follows them everywhere.

*HL2RP Setting: Crippled version of Earth, with no real human government, economy or society.
TRP Setting: Crippled version of Earth, with no real human government, economy or society.

MR-RP (Modern Revolution RP) setting: Weakened version of the U.S, though Humanity is still holding it out. Taking place, mainly, in NYC.
MR-RP Antagonists: Local Police forces and (Event only) U.S Marines/Soldiers/Other things to fuck us up.
MR-RP Protagonists: Small-time rebels armed with half-assed weapons trying to free the city.
MR-RP Average Joe: A poor U.S Citizen, living in the confines of the Government's control of the City. Either supporting the U.S, or the Rebels.

As you can see, the main idea of it differentiates from the other ideas people have come up with.

No, to all those people out there like 'Oh noes, I'mma lose mah cee pee. That can't happen. DON'T REPLACE HL2RP!!!'
We're not talking to replace it, just come up with something fresh. HL2RP is boring as fuck, and you know it.?
Commence the hatred replies.

Make a Spear!
Join a community!
Become trigger happy with a pistol!
Kill shitloads of OTA.
Die/Lead an advance to free a city and move it's population to outter areas to make it harder for the Union to kill us.
FUCK DA CCA!
Though, if I was not amp'd I'd join and screw them over from the inside. MUHAHAHA!

General Discussion / Re: Catalyst Gamer gets pulled over by a cop.
« on: August 22, 2012, 05:56:09 PM »
When was this made? Because I know the TSG just came back online, though it doesn't seem so popular at the moment. I'm friends with a short-time former admin at TSG. Played it a bit, went inactive due to Catalyst. (Played the NEW server of it, don't have a clue about the old one)

4
Meh, I said I wouldn't reply but I guess I will...
I... actually do know plenty about CG's past enough to know why certain things are (except I still don't know the story of the Resistance Uniform). But we cannot let the past dictate the present and the future. We must learn from our mistakes, and attempt at different solutions instead of fearing it in all.
I'm at least happy SOME people get it.

5
I think I'm going to stop with the replys here. It's getting kind of tiresome to counter-point everyone's close-minded reply.
This post is NOT about guns. It's about the inappropriateness of how we deal with our problems that seem expendable to some, in which are not. We take the laziest way out by killing off the good and bad so that way we don't have to deal with the bad, and I find that the most aggravating thing about how we have this community. No, not the frustrating biases that make no sense, not the lack of RP in general. The way we lazily deal with our problems that are Citizen related
Guns aren't needed to roleplay and generally only add unneeded drama. Sure, admins can handle shit like this but why waste the time in the first place?

Perfect example of why I'm making this post.

6
I never said it was for Resistance RP, nor was I implying we needed that.
Also said that we have Admins for dealing with misuse, and I never implied everyone having guns. I was trying to say how it is not appropriate that it's near impossible to obtain certain things due to people messing up.
You act as if EVERYONE not in the CCA would abuse the weapons, which is untrue. People in OL have guns, we don't abuse them. Again, CCA, you've got guns, that doesn't ruin RP. By the fact, 'we' feel it betters ours, so why does it not Resistance RP?

Also, if you've ever played single-player G-mod, you'd know that when a NPC dies it says '*NPC NAME* *SYMBOL IN WHICH SIGNIFIES WHAT WEAPON WAS USED* *DEAD NPC*. I was more or less adding something in that didn't even need, so, yeah. I'm also sorry to say that I can count much more then Ten on my way. Counting the dead ones that used to be there, there might've been a size able amount. But, you're almost counter acting your own post by saying they had these 'few' guns, because if they were so few, and were so thoroughly searched for, why are they in the hands of the Refugees?

7
Guns aren't given out in the city because nearly everytime they are, and literally almost every time something bad has happened that you wouldn't really expect to happen.

For vests it's because normally people wearing them think they're better than other people and they're just really bad for RP.

These questions have been answered time and time again and the answer is still the same. I doubt doing it again will change it, sorry.

Didn't I JUST say that when people abuse things, we have Admins for that?

Also, so what if we have people acting elitist? We have PLENTY of that with other factions, such as the CCA. Why don't we kill that off too then?

The reason its harder to get guns (to my knoledge) is that during and post war, the CCA thouroughly sweeped through the world and either collected or destroyed more or less all the weapons.

Then, why is it that in the actual game of Hl2, there were fully armed Refugees along the Canals? Are they magic? Hell, I even remember screwing around on that one Apartment map in HL2, and as the CCA member were busting in that one of the apartments I noticed a 'Citizen (Pistol symbol) Metrocop' in the right corner? Are they Wizzards that can magically have these 'few' weapons? And I do so recall the CCA not being implemented until AFTER the Seven Hour War.

8
Why is it that certain things in the game are hard to impossible to get? It makes no sense. I do not understand why we must eliminate all of our problems by killing it off when it's not the items or such that is the problem, it's the people using them. I hate it whenever I see maybe a thread wondering about things like guns, most admins/players respond they can't do this because of misuse/minges. And that, is a bullshit reason.

I don't think people understand that we HAVE ADMINS FOR DEALING WITH PEOPLE THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE RULES. But, instead, we just decide that it's an even better decision to take things and make them HARD AS SHIT to get, such as guns. There is no reason why we are not able to do certain things because people did not follow the rules. THEY should be punished for their actions, not us. I even remember someone saying that it'd be too hard for people to smuggle in weapons like that ICly. Then, why do we have an active population in the Outlands? Because it's easier to smuggle people then guns? No, it's not. Why do we have OTHER contraband in the City then? Is it easier to smuggle Stationary Radios? No.

This also brings me up to when Purple had that small group of Traders that sold weapons and ammunition to the public, and it was great! Though, it was short-lived due to some other admins getting pissed when on occasion there were people not using them right, or people got mugged etc... Once again; ADMINS, WE SHOULD USE THEM.

I also don't have a clue why we're not allowed to freely go to the City from the Outlands. I remember hearing that people were running rampant with guns from OL. That makes just about the same amount of sense then Charlie Sheen is completely durg-free. If you got a gun in OL, chances are you're not a minge since it's one of the hardest things to do now.

We should AT THE LEAST be allowed to apply for some sort of auth to obtain them in both OL and the City. In that way, we can at least know that the people who've been accepted are the level of RPers that are fit to having a weapon and not abusing it. So what that we can have a IC knife, or maybe a stick? That's not gonna help against a mob of OTA flailing their weapons around. It MAYBE able to handle some un-armed people that're trying to mug you.

And I don't even know why it's EVEN HARDER to get a Resistance Uniform? You can't even abuse that, and it's one of the only clothes that you can get as a Citizen? So why is it so hard? I often hear people saying 'You don't need uniforms to Resistance RP.', but what if we wanted to? We are usually left with these neat-like uniforms, what if I wanted a more rugged look to myself? There's no good reason why we can't have them?

I understand that this is probably gonna just piss people off, and this is a sort of repetitive theme to a post, and it's somewhat short. I just wanted to make a couple points of opinion across.

Half-Life 2 Roleplay / Re: Weaponry / Rebellion
« on: August 14, 2012, 10:27:10 AM »
Just a note: I didn't make the post saying I -didn't- like how RP was turning out for me, I just found it different then how'd I expected it to be. I just thought of it a BIT strange that aspects that drew me in were not actually there.

WoW players ftw! I used to play World of Warcraft but I never managed to try the RP side though I always wanted to and I will ask, what was it like? I plan to get back into it when Mists of Pandaria comes out even though it seems really dumb. But I digress.

WoW RP is very fun, but also very uptight. If you wanted the utter best RP your /e, or in Gmod terms /mes had to be paragraphs long at the least, and even as they expanded the chat it's still not nearly the capacity. I swear, if they boosted it even higher I'd have be able to finally make my seemingly essays of combat RP, and paragraphs of seemingly ordinary tasks. I myself was part of a highly prestigious Guild, the First Regiment. It was mainly Soldier RP about the Human and Dwarf Alliance's forces. It was so difficult to get by I myself never got past Private before quitting. Weapons were obviously one of the easiest things, and no one had a choice but to /me their Combat RP since inter-faction PvP is not in WoW.

12
It was a time when I still was a WoW RPer, enjoying to go on my Military RP char Goknak a lot, I soon found out that Garry's Mod actually had Role play servers. I was quickly enticed by the footage I saw of the group of friends that embarked around on Rebel-like characters causing mayhem and just plain old fun wherever they had trekked. It seemed to be fairly nice, although the RP on those servers seemed to highly downgrade as far as things like /mes. It seemed to be something that I hoped to encounter and enjoy. (Also taking note this took place on a C18 map)

Then as I soon quit WoW, I decided to see what this Gmod RP was like. As I first enter I notice that the map was similar to the one in HL2, well, at least the Plaza. I, myself, wanted to become a Resistance member. As I soon discover that there really was no City Resistance RP, I tried to create ones of my own. Only doomed to fail as I had no idea how this would work. It very quickly became the complete opposite of what I'd hoped for. Though, I'm not trying to say it's not fun to go on the HL2RP servers, I do find it to be different to what I'd seen. I soon learned it was highly biased towards CCA RP, as if it was the Golden child of a family with two others highly neglected.

This may just be due to that most of my gaming friends either were shitting clueless about RP and did not own Gmod. Or that my RP friends were mostly busy with the WoW RP, and could not join me. Any-who, I like the servers, but it they to lack what attracted me in the first place.

Meh, I'm not that big of a person around here so I'm just gonna assume no one gives...

13
I hate to say it, but I do think we need some form of guns. I think an admin should come on once a week at an unspecified time as a gun trader that stays on for maybe two hours and wanders. Something like that...

Still, I think one of the biggest things that would help is if we had dedicated admins to Outlands. Doesn't mean they can't play City server, but ones who were primarily charged with playing the Outlands even when only a  couple of people are on.

That is actually a good idea... Though, there was one time when Purple formed a little group and they primarily sold weapons and munitions. That ended shortly due to a couple people misusing the weapons. The other Admins didn't hesitate to point fingers and eventually stop him from selling these weapons.

It is also a good idea to have admins that primarily go on OL. But, I do often find admins on the server, so I don't find too much of a problem.

Hary Smith's Civil Authority Application

OOC Name: That Guy in a Box

IC Character Name: Hary Smith

1) Please write a minimum of 3 paragraphs OOC'ly detailing why your character wishes to join the Combine Civil Authority and what lead your character to do so.

Upon learning about the CCA, Hary became instantly interested, its reputation was undoubtedly superior to many - especially that of his own citizenry. In his short life in C45, Hary has found the streets to be befouled with lawlessness, murder, and many other things that are not in line. He also sees the UU as a second chance at life for the Human race, without their help we would all plunge into darker times. Although the farthest back he could remember was after the 7-Hour War, he still knows that life before was basically a crash course. He has grown tired of minimal contributions to the UU's progress, i.e. requesting when he sees something amiss, or cleaning up the streets. Hary knows he is capable of doing, learning, and supporting more. The Combine Civil Authority is the perfect vehicle to drive these mutual common initiatives/missions.

He barely remembers life before the 7-Hour War, but Hary has always instinctively wished to become something along the lines of enforcing the law and restoring order for the greater good of the world. This is also part of the reason he yearns to join; a mysterious feeling at the back of his mind that he has always been one wishing to be a unit. Of course it goes without saying there are obvious advantages to unit living with a respectable organization. Being a part of a highly respected union, receives an extension of respect, upgraded living conditions, and an escape from a life of cleaning graffiti off the streets - Hary cannot deny he has ambitions.

As part of his extensive effort to join the highly admirable CCA, Hary has created networks with similarly interested citizens to gain insight and tools to prepare him for his ultimate goal. Hary only hopes his determination will eventually payoff and he can start proving his value.

2) Please detail your characters traits. (Eg, Pure, Lawful, Trustworthy)

Hary is:

Loyal - He will always, has always, been a loyal man to the cause of the UU.

Trustworthy - Hary can be trusted with many tasks, as well as many secrets.

Obedient - Hary does not dare resist his superiors and his orders.

Lawful - Hary only believes in maintaining order, and protecting Civil Society.

Polite - Hary has always been one of manners and politeness.

Cooperative - Hary has always been one to cooperate with the orders of those superior to him.

3) Please provide 2 paragraphs about what you are expecting the Combine Civil Authority to be like for you and your character.

I expect the CCA to be a different, more exciting RPing experience then that of the Citizen RP. I am excited to interact and learn from more seasoned and serious players. The possibility of independence from the oppression of Citizen RP, is like a light at the end of the tunnel. Although I don't expect to be a key player from the beginning, I look forward to developing my character and my skills to that of the CCA's higher standards.

As for Hary, the prospect of broadening his limited knowledge of the military and training, it will be an invigorating and stupendously challenging experience. It would be his only desire to assist the CCA and the UU as much as he can. Hary as always looked at himself as more of a enforcer, the anything else. He'd much rather go on patrols, and do some of the dirty work then other things with meager results.

4) Please provide a detailed back-story from an out-of-character perspective on your applying character. This section must be detailed and consist of a minimum of 300 words.

WHAT HE REMEMBERS-
Last Hary remembers, he was walking down the street, was startled by gunfire and strange crafts appeared in the air. Soon enough a building would begin to crumble and Hary's head was hit by some concrete debris, knocking him out cold. He then awakens in a very dark, strange room, accompanied by robotics and strange creatures fitting him with a blue jumpsuit, he could barely remember how to speak. A small room with a screen taught him about life and history, and how to speak, the voice having an English Accent, strongly influenced Hary's own accent. He then was escorted to a train station where he boarded a train for City 45. Hary found himself being closely watched by masked men and cameras, as he finally got off the train. He was searched for anything out of the ordinary, such as weapons or other contraband. As he finally got out of the train station he found himself in a orderly society, with all the necessities needed and at no cost, which surprised him, the generosity of his conquerors was great to him. He then went to the UCH, where he was assigned a new apartment, which further baffled him to learn he was not the only one shown such hospitality. He felt great appreciation towards the UU, and how generous they've been to his kind.

WHAT HE DOES NOT REMEMBER-
Hary, ironically was not born in England, it was actually the hit to the head that forced him to relearn language with the computer English accent. Though he does not remember it, his real name is Lorenzo. Hary was born in New York where he lived in a small town, having a nice life for a child at the time. He grew up around a unruly set of children in his young life, always being influenced to do drugs, and alcohol. He was always the one above those sort of unlawful things that he would never in his life partake. He loved school and it's teachings, especially the subjects of Science and History. He grew up being one to like the histories of fallen militaristic empires. Hary grew a  liking  towards the tactics of City style Guerrilla Warfare and interested in the methods of certain terrorist/rebellion groups such as the I.R.A, and the Taliban. He also had a growing interest in Science, and the workings of the world and how things worked. As he grew older he started to become interested in becoming a law enforcer, though with all is school work he never had the time to really become one, this saved him from death in the 7-Hour War. That one, faithful day when the Combine launched their attack upon the Earth in which devastated the world's population centers, and the Combine rule had begun. Hary on his way to the grocery when strange crafts flew upon the air, and strange creatures roamed the land. He began to run to his home when a large building started to crumble, and the  falling debris knocked him out.

5) Have you ever had a CCA character here at Catalyst Gaming?  If so, explain why it was removed.

It was on a WoW RP server, whitest I was still in The First Regiment. We had just received orders to attack a enemy fortification by Twilight Cultists in Loch Modan. As we charged we EASILY took the battlefield against our cultist combatants. I and some other charged straight for the highest point in the mound, in which we took on some of the heavier defenses. I engaged a female Night Elf in which I had knocked over, thus getting the attention of her angry friend. The two easily overpowered me as I was thrown straight back. I was then cooked in my own armor by one of the two women. It took maybe ten minutes before a friendly Gnome Medic came by, and another Dwarf who eliminated the female and helped me heal up, and get up. I soon went straight back into the heat of the battle, assisting a friend in a dual combat against an enemy Death Knight, we fought hard against him but we soon prevailed. Though, too soon enough we were forced to retreat as they enemy had heavy Dragon-mounted reinforcements. We fled back to a nearby town where we rested and healed.
