Router/Modem Issue?
« on: November 18, 2011, 08:11:23 PM »
My internet cuts out every 5 or so minutes, and it starts working again if I turn my modem on and off. When I plug into my router, I will have the same issue, if I'm lucky. Normally it just doesn't give me internet at all. I've tried plugging the modem into different DSL cables and different ports around the house and gotten the same problem each time, so I'm guessing it's not a cable/port issue.

The weirdest bit is that sometimes, I will have internet for 2 hours before it starts cutting out. Nobody is stealing my connection (plugged in directly to modem), and it doesn't work for any site, not just one.

Should I just call bell and order a new modem? Or is there a problem with my internet connection?

This was happening in my house for a few months and as soon as we changed modem, everything was fine. I suggest you get expert advice on it though, because for all I know it might not be your Modem so getting a new one might just be a big wast of time and/or money.

Also why did you put this in the suggestions board? SHould have gone in Support and help.

Shit, my bad. The modem would be free, but I'd have to order it- we can afford to buy one easily, my mom needs internet for work so we just head out and buy one tommorow.

And lol, had to make this post about 10 times and reset my modem about 15 times.

Lmao. Wonder how many times you'll have to do it to reply to this one. If you are wanting a Modem, try a Wireless Modem Router. It's not actually bad and I thought it would be a pile of <Insert profanity here>

See, it's wonky now. I've been online for the past hour without problems. Yeah, I'll buy a wireless modem/router, depending on the price. Thanks for your help.

Don't thank me untill it's actually working xD

Also who locked it? This topic should stay open untill the issue is resolved, which it hasn't been yet.

Alright, I received the new modem in the mail today, it's set up, and seems to work fine. Let's see how long I can stay online, haha. Thanks for your help Jigger, and I like how this thread looks like a bass clef and treble clef talking :p

If your provider tells you they can send you a free one, and they need your modem's model, ask for a "Speedstream 4200." That's what I got. And it is working perfect. :D

You will need a separate router anyway
